Planning to rent a car?

by MariusG

In Romania, you better rent the car WITH the driver. The difference in price is small - if at any, and a driver can be invaluable in finding and choosing the right road, place and people. Make sure that he (yes, in Romania is always a he) has a new car, in good condition and with AC. I also found a driver which is also a licensed guide will charge you much more; it's up to you if you need the extra service and are willing to pay for it; I didn't. We had an excellent driver - Viorel Oncioiu, with a new Mercedes Sprinter and I can definitely recommend him.

Trains are the way to go

by delavue

Trains are terribly easy and simple to book in Romania. Prices are next to nothing, and most trains were clean enough and comfy. The tickets are strange little pieces of cardboard, so don't be alarmed. Make sure to have everything together and don't lose any of the slips of paper you'll get. Enjoy the views, especially near Transilvania and the Carpathians.

I used the Amerom car hire company services hiring a car for one week and I had no problems at all. The car was in very good condition and the local service at Otopeni Airport was fine even being Amerom a loca car hire company.

Train Stops

by edvin_br

While driving in the Romanian roads, enjoing the amazing scenery of the country you will probably have to stop sometimes at the trains passge way. there are a few importent tips about that kind of stops:-You should check very carefully if a train is coming, because some places dont have warning lights yet so its can be very dangerous.-You will sometimes see some drivers turn off their engines and even getting out of the car to have a samll walk along the rims of the road. That is because the stops can take a long time sometimes (sometimes even more than 5 minouts)...So you shouldnt be surprised if you see a thing like this, but if you drive on a motorway than you dont have to worry... :)

Getting to Romania

by mujgabi

The best way to getting here is not Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Comnig from all over Europe, the cheapest and easiest way is flying to Budapest. Not only the prices are much smaller, but it is faster to get to Transilvania, the best destination worth visiting. There are tens of interesting places to see, including the famos Dracula Castle (which had, unfortunately, nothing to do with DRACULA, the legendary character of Stocker, or the historical prince of Muntenia). If anyone is interested in best places to see around Romania, just drop me a line. They are too many to mention here.

Horsecart hitchhiking

Hey, why not hitch a ride on a horsecar`t? You see lots of them around rural Romania, sometimes more often then cars, and even in cities you can see them sometimes. Now that's the the way to get around Romania!!!

Driving your own car.

by almogaver

There are three ways to arrive to Romania; by car,by train or by aeroplane. Of course, the first one is the best to travel in your own way, but here, in Romania, is something bit different. Be sure that you want to do it.I say this because of the roads. You must drive very, very careful. It´s possible to found all you can imagine in the middle of any road, incluiding main roads. In many places you can see workers, so next years the roads will be better, but now there are still many holes, some roads with no marks, etc...Have a look to my poor car....You must add than at nigth there are no ligths, and crossing some places is really dangerous.

CFR

by edvin_br

CFR is the Romanian national rail company and its services geting better every year. You will find in Romania 4 kinds of Trains:Personal-this are the worst trains on earth, they are maybe cheap but very slow, dirty, stop at every tiny village and very uncomfortable.Accelerat-This trains are somewaht better then the Personal. They are faster, less crowded and more expensive (to western tourists its still look cheap), but yet... they arent very comfortable.Rapid-This trains are much better then the first 2. they are much faster, stop only at the importent satations and also more comfortable and more expensive.Intercity-This are the best trains in Romania, all of them are completely new or modernized. The trains are fast, very comfortable and some of them has a restaurant or bar (of course they are also the most expensive in Romania).CFR operates some International trains too, there are...
