Romania Roads

by edvin_br

It is very complicated to give an exact information about the roads in Romania. Some of them are really good but some of them are in poor condition. In the urban areas it depands on the size of the city... In Bucharest the main roads are goodbut there is still a lot of work that needed to the secondary roads. At larger cities the roads are mostly good but sometimes a bit poor with holes and stuff (it depands on the traffic at those areas and the length of time between the renovations). In smaller towns and villages most of the roads arent smooth (only the real main are pretty good at those places) and it will be a little weird for a western tourist. At the national roads (that arent in built up area) its more simple to understand. There are some motorways: one that connecting Bucharest to Pitesti, the second connecting Bucharest to Constanta (not all the segment of the road are open...

Tarom

by edvin_br

Tarom is the Romania national airline company. They serve many destenations, especially in Europe and in the Middle east (a lot of Destinations in North Ameriac and Asia hacve been removed because of the international flight crisis), most of them arrive to Bucharest, others arrive to Timisoara, Cluj, Constanta and more. The company also operates fights to all the airports around Romania.Tarom is giving a great service to the clients and there are offices of the company all around the world.

Cable car

by grets

The cable car runs from the outskirts of Brasov to the top of Tampa Mountain. Worth it for the great view from the top. There is also a restaurant and the top. We didn't try the food, but the service when we ordered a drink was very surly.

Road Conditions

by AndreSTGT

The roads in Romania are much better than i expected. Many of the highways that connect major towns are brand new, but even in some more remote regions in Northern Romania the roads are mostly OK.Some badly potholed stretches still exist, but they're all navigable with an ordinary car.The greatest danger are the horse-carts in rural Romania, esp. at night since they often don't have lights.

Nice Train Trip Brasov to Buchurest

by ddlucy

Our family road 1st class from Brasov to Buchurest. Everything was great. The scenery was impressive as any I've seen in Europe.Train was clean and modern - even had areas for non-smoking.The ride was on schedule about 2.5 hours. Buy ticket the day before.Conductors don't speak alot of English, but plenty of people do.

Bucharest Roads

by amav

Take a small sample of the roads in Romania. Beware because the roads are in pad situation and your car maybe has unpleasant surprises. Bucuresti has really very bad roads and the problem is bigger with the existence of tram because sometimes there are some big holes because of tram lines.

The Port of Constanta

by Nobbe

Constanta harbour is Romania’s lung and, at the same time, its main Black Sea port, ranked just after ROTERDAM, ANVERS and MARSEILLE, Constanta Harbour is actually Europe’s south-eastern entry port. Placed at the crossroads of the commercial routes that not only link Eastern Europe to Western Europe but also North Africa to the Middle East and Asia, Constanta lies on the western coast of the Black Sea, 185 miles far from Bosphorus.

Horse and Carriage

by Nobbe

If you like you can go around with horse and carriage. This horse I found in Mamaia ready to taking tourists around there. But when driving a car around in Romania you shouldn't be that surprised to see horses with waggons etc slowing down the traffic as the farmers still use this traditional method to transport their products.

Renting a car: easy and great flexibility

by tiganeasca

I have rented a car both times I have been in Romania. Renting was easy, if not exactly cheap. Driving around the country is remarkably easy (with the exception of Bucharest, which is a nightmare). Roads and destinations are very well-marked and the only time I got lost in five weeks of driving was my fault. Gas is reasonably priced (for Europe) and plentiful and the opportunity to stop whenever and wherever you want is unbeatable. If you are the least tempted (and able), I'd highly recommend it.

Bucharesti Taxis

by Backpackin_Mac

Be very careful if you catch the overnight train from Budapest to Bucharest as it arrives at midnight. There are many fake taxis and they can extort a lot of money out of you. In my Romania homepage I have written a story about an experience I had.
