This square is so ugly so that it is actually interesting again. It features the city's high rise building. Dom Knigi, which sells a few classics in english. A Lenin statue and some interesting Soviet architecture.
Gostiny Dvor
yumyum Says:
In old times this used to be the trading/shopping complex of the city. Nowadays, there is a museum and the building or rather what is left of it is under repair.
La forchetta d'oro: Pizzeria
yumyum Says:
Well, they have some very funny pizzas here, ie sweet ones for desert. I had a hawaiian which wasn't too bad but it actually had a different name. The menu is in Russian only. They also have other dishes but not always all of them are available.
Red Dragoon (Krasny Drakon): Some exotic in the Arkhangelsk
Naryan-Mar Says:
Small, but very friendful restaurant in the center of Arkhangelsk. Music seems strange to me, but all the rest is rather good. Nice service and national chinise dishes. There they also have chinise and japanise plum wine and sake.
Ships and boats
Bastet_ Says:
If you want to walk on river Nothern Dvina then you have to go to rever berth. Don't mix it up with sea-river port which you see on photo. If you stay near this port and look to river then turn to the right and go about 200 m, then you'll see rever berth. Happy river walk!
Morskoy Retschnoy Voksal

By boat to nearby islands
yumyum Says:
At Retschnoy Voksal (river station) there is a timetable for boats running in summer. Don't confuse this station with the big Moskoe Retschnoi Voksal!
By train
yumyum Says:
From Moscow Jaroslav station it takes about 22 hours to reach Archangelsk. If you want to use the left luggage, make sure you check the times. For instance don't check out of the hotel at 12 am thinking that you can then bring the bag there as it has a lunch break from 12am...

fishing and hunt where nobody has trod
Helpfulness
Bastet_ 23 reviews
Area of Arkhangel'sk region is very rich in forest (about 230 square km), rivers and bogs. So don't go to fishing and hunt without hunter, because you can get lost and never find your way.
I'm not expert in that activity. But I remember that salmon is fished in June.

Bastet_ Says:
Lenin square is a centre of the city. I don't know why yumyum said that this square is ugly. I don't think so. And I can't understand another thing. Why city goverment put Lenin monument instead of fountain. I liked fountain more.

City beach
yumyum Says:
In summer you can spend your time on this beach. I don't know whether I would want to swim in that river water though.Otherwise, it is very pleasant to stroll along the river but not when it's pourring down with rain and windy.
