The esteemed Vladimir Mikhailovich

This is a private house owned by Vladimir Mikhailovich. He is a good fella and keeps a clean, if simple, joint. We stayed there one night and he fed us, watered us, provided us with samogan (home made vodka), and played cards with us and then entertained us with live music!

If I am ever invited back, I would bite someone's hand off to come back.

Dress Code: Anything really. You can even wear your shapka indoors (because its a bit chilly sometimes when you nip off to the loo).

Horses and carts / sledges are a viable alternative to getting around this collection of settlements.

Aliona and Ania by the train at Konosha

From Petersburg, get a train to Arkangelsk. Then after 13 hours, alight at Konosha.

Here you have two options. Either go by local train straight to Fominskaia, or get a taxi (i.e. a private car willing to drive 1.5hrs there). We went by taxi (250 roubles / 9 usd), but train is probably cheaper, although the timetable is probably erratic.

Water from a well

Bascially, there is no running water in Fominskaia which means frequent trips to the village well - a common amenity - which is used constantly.

Luckily, the well is about 2 minutes away from our host's house. Check this out.
