Favorite thing: Baskunchak is a real salt lake, i.e. there were no any water there - only salt.
For last 125 years ths is the main Russian salt-fields. Salt is digged by miner leaving long and deep caves in the salt. Those caves filled with rain water making a nice place for extream swiming. Extream - because even small wind can move you like a baloon across the water.
Fondest memory: Fill yourself a baloon ar a wooden puppet.

Favorite thing: Visited many mud places in the world I've noticed that tourists consider all mud very curative. LOL! Baskunchak is not an exception!

Favorite thing: Bogdo is a stand-alone mountain in a steppe. Is is only 150 m high, but it is growing every year by 1 mm. Bogdo is very picturesque and colourful as its rocks are of the different minerals of different colours (from deep red to white and yellow).

Salt Lake and Growing Mountain
There are two main attractions in Baskunchak - Salt Lake and Bogdo Mount.
Is big salt lake about -10 meters below sea level in Astrakhanskaya Oblast region. The population of Nizhniy Baskunchak, as estimated in late 2006, is 3,153.
