SVO1, view from boarding zone by bugulma There are 3 main airports, as I know, which have domestic and international flights (info for the end of 2008-January 2009). 1) Sheremetyevo. The most famous airport but in the same time the oldest one and sometimes you should come for 3 hours before your flight for the registartion. The most comfortable way to get it is taxi for RUR 900-1200 (EUR 25-32, depending on the region of the city you're going to go to the airport), of course, but cheaper way is to have 'marshrutka' (minibus) from Rechnoy Vokzal metrostation RUR 60 (EUR 1.62). I usually get mini-busses in any way. By the way, remember that the airport has 2 terminals, for inner and abroad flights (SVO2 - international). Since 2008 you can get the international terminal by train express from Savelovsky Railway Station (Savelovskaya metro station, grey line), the ticket is RUR 250 (EUR 6.75). www.sheremetyevo-airport.ru 2) Domodedovo. The most modern airport with good transportation to the city. You may have a train-express from Paveletsky trainstation RUR 150 (EUR 4.00). Besides you may get minibus from Domodedovskaya metrostation RUR 100 (EUR 2.27) of the bus to the same station for RUR 80 (EUR 1.8). Sometimes I got taxi and it was RUR 900 (EUR 20) from the Southern area of the city where I live. www.domodedovo.ru 3) Vnukovo. There are several companies flying there, including GermanWings for example. It is very close to the city and the way to the airport is 10 minutes around from Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station and RUR 40 (EUR 1.05). Another way is to get train from Kievsky railway station. It goes every hour from 7 am till 11 pm and you pay RUR 150 (EUR 4.00). www.vnukovo.ru In every airport you can use ATM to have some cash for the taxi or busses or trains. Oktobrakskaya by MrBill Drunken Flight Attendants Beat Aeroflot According to Bloomberg this morning, drunken flight attendants beat up a man on an Aeroflot flight from Moscow to the Siberian oil town of Nizhnevartovsk after he served himself when the attendants refused to bring his girlfriend more wine. The three male attendants work for Aviaenergo, which Russian state-run carrier Aeroflot uses on some domestic flights. The passenger had a black eye when he got off the four-hour flight and has filed assault charges. Other people on the flight said the attendants dropped food trays and slammed a passenger in a doorway as he left the plane. The quote was something to the effect ``You understand how coordination worsens when someone isn't sober,'' Aeroflot might reconsider its contract with Aviaenergo if it finds the crew started the fight. On a separate note, Aeroflot may join Air France's Sky Team frequent flier network soon, which will be great for business fliers that want to collect more points. Personally, I would have been happier had they chosen Lufthansa and the Star Alliance group. As the French might say, C'est la vie. Leave a Comment

I left Moscow by plane to Germany. Moscow has 4 airports: Domodedovo, Sheremetevo, Bykovo and Vnukovo. My flight was from Domodedovo, which is located about 35 km south of the city centre. To get to the airport I took the AeroExpress train from Paveletsky railway station (120 Rubles, 3,50 Euro, 2005). The airport is also served by express buses from Domodedovskaya metro station. High Tech - if we can get it outta the snow bank by MrBill The cheapest flights to and from Moscow are inevitably on Aeroflot. This is because other airlines have to pay more for landing rights than Aeroflot does. Therefore, I tend to find that their prices are usually at least $100 cheaper than comparable flights on other airlines. The downsides to flying Aeroflot are many. Their own poor service during the flight and at check-in; accompanied by snarly employees and indifference to customer service; and their annoying habit of cancelling or delaying flights without proper warning or reasonable explanation. Also, Aeroflot flies in and out of Sheremetyevo II airport, which is owned by the city of Moscow, and leased out to a private operator. They have spent very little money upgrading this airport since it was built for the Olympic games in 1980. The traffic to and from Sheremetyevo along Lenningradsky can be horrendous. You should give yourself no less than 3-hours to get from downtown, check-in, and to clear customs. Even this may at times be cutting it close if you get stuck in rush hour traffic. I usually leave really early, so I do not have this stress. Then once I get to the airport, I check to make sure the flight has not been cancelled. Then if I have enough time, I go up to the 5-Oceans dining room on 5th-floor. This is a nice quiet place to sit and relax and watch the planes land and take-off, or to get some work done. The food is decent and less expensive than in the Arrival and Departure concourses. I usually have something to eat there, so when I get on board, I do not have to eat the pre-packaged meal, which is nothing to write home about. And, then I can sleep, which makes the crowded journey in economy class more bearable. I am hoping that Aeroflot will purchase or lease more Boeings and Airbuses to replace their aging TU154s. However, as the government is a part owner of Aeroflot, they would like them to buy domestically to stimulate the local aircraft market. Aeroflot has just ordered 6-new IL-96s, which are supposed to offer more room. Leave a Comment Theme: AirplanePhone: +7 095 753 5555Website: www.aeroflot.ru/eng Other Contact: www.gotorussia.ru

alone on the beach by MrBill Wasn't sure where to put this TIP, but then again, as so few are ever read and or commented on, this is a public service announcement just as likely to be ignored as followed. Still, it is Friday afternoon here in Cyprus, and this my first update to my pages this week, so it helps you, I am happy. In an effort to stem losses of holiday bookings by Russians to Cyprus of up to 25-percent after visa-free travel was abolished this year, Cypriot authorities will stop charging Russians for visas in 2004 & 2005 it was announced. In an effort to improve visas to Cyprus, 60-percent of visas are issued within 24-hours according to the Cypriot Embassy. Less than one percent of Russians are refused the visa. There is now a new Cypriot Consolate in St. Petersburg, as well as, the Embassy in Moscow. 140.000 Russians visit Cyprus each year. Cyprus is suffering this year by a drop in the number of Russians visiting, but also from a Cyprus pound that is considered some 30-percent overvalued. Cyprus is one of the most expensive Meditteranean destinations, and offers poor value for the money in comparison with other areas. Never the less some 20.000 Russians live & work in Cyprus, many in Limassol. Leave a Comment

ready for take-off by MrBill Sheremetyevo II and Domodedovo are both alright or both a nightmare depending on the traffic to and from the airport at the particular time you are travelling. Domodedova is farther out, about 40-45 km from the city center versus 20-25 km for Sheremetyevo, but I would book based on the cost of the flights and availability, not based on distance, as with a negotiated taxi fare they may be similar. Alternatively, if you have more time than money, you can take the metro. Also, there is a metro line which runs near both airports. In times of heavy traffic, metro may even be faster than taxi. You can then take a quick taxi from the metro to Sheremetyevo II. The metro stops near Domodedovo so you can walk. There is now a train to Domodedovo from Paveletsky station in downtown Moscow. Just take the metro from Kurskaya to Paveletskaya - two stops on the Circle Line - and then get on the train to the airport. For example, Aeroflot & Lufthansa use Sheremetyevo II and Germania and British Airways use Domodevedo. Aeroflot will soon join Air France's Sky Team network. Leave a Comment

If you're flying into Moscow - you'll either land at Sheremetyevo II situated about 15km north just off the Moscow - St Petersburg highway or Domodedovo situated about 15km south. Sheremetyevo II is a rather run down airport - although it was undergoing a makeover at the time. There are a few 24 hour shops in the departure / arrival area before going through check-in, including a pharmacy, cafes (about £7 for a meal), a bank & exchange bureau. Getting to Moscow from the airport is an adventure in itself! At the time there was no direct rail link between Sheremetyevo & central Moscow. The options are... catch a bus from outside the arrival area - ground floor - or a shuttle to the nearest metro station Rechnoy Vokzal (green line) or Planernaya (purple line). It takes about 30 minutes & will cost about R10 for the bus or R20-25 for the shuttle. Prices may have gone up! It's better to go to Rechnoy Vokzal if possible as it's a nicer area. Taxi's outside should be avoided as they are generally controlled by the Mafia & you're likely to be ripped off! If you prefer to catch a taxi - there are desks inside the airport - ask them to order a reputable or official taxi for you - it'll cost about U$ 30-40 though. Apparently there should be a direct train link between Sheremetyevo & Moscow centre sometime this year (2005). If you're arriving at Domodedovo -transport links are far better with the "Aeroexpress" train to Paveletsky station (Paveletskaya metro - green line / circle line intersect). It departs every hour from about 07h00 - 23h00, costs about U$ 3 or £1.50 and takes 40 mins. Alternately you can catch a bus or shuttle to Domodedov metro (green line) and then catch the metro into town. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Sheremetyevo is one of the biggest Moscow's international airports. Actually it stays in 20-25 km from Moscow. And time you can be in Moscow depend of traffic (usiall is bad... or very much bad :( ) Leave a Comment

Sheremetyevo-2 by call_me_rhia Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, Sheremetyevo-2, is an international airport located about 35 km from Moscow - or else less than 1 hour if there is little traffic. Arrival and clearing customs is straightforward - you arrive on the first floor. Turn right as soon as you clear customs, there you will find a currency exchange. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane
