When you leave Moscow by air you may encounter long, long lines at the passport check point. Do not panic too much! We were told that the plane will not take off without you even though it is past your boarding-time etc. It was true at least in our case, the line was about an hour long at the passport check point and we were about an hour late for the flight. They waited.

at the Duty Free

The main airport in Moscow is Sheremetyevo. They have a very convenient Duty Free, wait till you are here to buy the vodka souvenir bottles, they have good variety and prices.
For any info about transports from the airport and so, visit:

By Aeroflot
they are not the best airline I ve ever been in, but they just take you.
Other choice is train which will take a long time.
Moving inside Moscow is by taxi, they are cheap. And the tip: they don t necessary are taxis, most of the time are particular cars that you stop them (like remise) and they take you for very few money.

Aeroflot from JFK or Boston is the best deal I could find. I went from Florida to JFK the direct to Moscow for $700 r/t.
Metro is the best way to most places. They sell metro maps in English at most stations. The metro is a subway. Also you can flag down any car like your hitch hiking but if you don't speak Russian it will do you no good as most don't speak English. The girl I was with did all the dealing and it is a cheap way to go

Good priced flights from London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW) to Moscow (SVO), which takes about 4/5 hours. Don't travel with Aeroflot, it might be cheaper, but the service on-board is one to be avoided.
Trams or trolley-bus; good system with taxis, private cars will just pull up and the prices are very reasonable. You can (although not strictly legal) pay in U.S. Dollars.

plane I think.. we tryed to enter russia with our motorbike in summer 2000 but they wanted too much money, and it's really easy to have them stolen.
I think sheremetivo, the international airport has changed, but when I was there was the opposite of a 'good russian puiblic relation' airport! the arrival section was simply scaring... really 'poor' with a custom looking really 'unfriendly' even though I had some more problem entering the states.... the depature section was one of the best I ever saw.... I think is not a good deal to have a bad impression entering and a fantastic one while leaving.....

useless to say, I think, the pic is not 'original'....
should be plane as russia is quite big... but it's better to AVOID AEROFLOT... they're the best contributors in the growing of the air crashs files... If nothing has changed I still suggest to visit bikovo airport, the internal flight airport... I think an inner africa bus station is better... no info system at all inside, guess how easy it is to catch the right plane.. you have to carry your luggages, load them into the plane than sit in a chair that brought to my memory some old italian country cafe'....
