believe me-i'm very far from being snob..but this place is something standing apart and not in a good way! overcrowded, 2/3 of food and drinks they say they have in the menu they dont have-for exemple i asked for some wine (i didnt care which one, i wanted it just to be wine, not going into details) and they didnt have any, so i had to drink vodka, and not clean vodka (they didnt have it either)-Absulut Currant Vodka..but where are we? in Moscow? in Russia? no clean vodka??? i will omit following 3 hours..will just add that at the end of this nice evening i saw security guys throwing out people being too drunk (or maybe not able to pay?).. sorry, no pictures
One night in Moscow? No question the best place is Doug & Marty's Boar House! No "feis control", great fun, good drinks, fun people. Plenty of girls for hire ($150-$250) and some pickups for free. Test you manhood by trying the two-letter absenthe shooters created by Doug Steele (in picture on left). My favorite "CA" (champaign and absenthe) and "GA" (gin and absenthe). Dancing and sports tv for all.
Monday night is "Countdown Monday". Try 4 for 1 drinks from 7 to 8pm; 3 for 1 from 8 to 9pm; 2 for 1 from 9 to 10pm - after than nobody cares!
Tuesday night - ladies night - Ladies Drink for Free!
Sunday night is pretty dead -
Rumor - may be moving locations January 31, 2006
Dress Code: Totally casual!
You'll feel out of place in a suit after 9 pm
The Boar House is where expats meet and eat. It is THE spot in Moscow for evening activities and we found that almost everyone in the expat communty either started or ended evenings here.
I bought a round of drinks for Marines who are embassy guards, sang a song with my buddies, and had a very good steak dinner which was served by an African girl who spoke good English.
It is an interesting place and like all full service establishments in Moscow it has house hookers. If a girl is at the bar or sitting down then she is a normal girl who is just out for a fun evening. If she is standing against the wall she is a hooker and will not bother you unless you call her over. I watched well heeled businessmen and ordinary guys link up with these girls. Everyone of them was just beautiful. It is sad that this is one of the best ways to make a living in Moscow these days. No Marines were observed interacting with the hookers. That does not mean that these boys are angels but they are not dummies. That would get them drummed out of the Corps.
It is an interesting bit of people watching when you go there. It is amazing to watch all these people and cultures interact.
Dress Code: Shirts and shoes required, pants optional.
Doug&Marty's Boar House (ex-Chesterfield Cafe)
This is a place where expats like to go. It was opened a few years ago and at first was called 'Chesterfield'. I loved it 4-5 years ago, but now I think it is too noisy and smoky. It is a place to meet people, drink beer, listen to live music (Tue, Fri and Sat), and disco starts every day at 23:00 pm. Open till the last visitor.
Dress Code: No particular dress code. You will however look weird if dressed in a suit: it's a relaxed place
Alright, you've been here for a few days, maybe a couple of weeks and you are getting frusterated because nobody speaks English and you don't speak Russian...Waht do you do???
Head on over to the Boarhouse any Wed. night for the largest gathering of English speaking folks in Moscow.
Well, everyone speaks English, which, in Moscow, is a bit unique. I don't typically go here myself, but when I am feeling a little bit lonely for English I pop in for a few beers. Also, on Wed. nights from 7-9 the beer and champaigne is free (excluding the 100R charge to get into the bar)...
Dress Code: Whatever you have on. You can check you coat at the Gardrobe, but if you bring a bag (ruksack, briefcase..) you will have to carry that with you, they won't check them.
Doug and Marty's formerly Chesterfields. This is a cool place always packed. Wed night 6 to 9pm free draft and wine. Plenty of available ladies and a lot of English and American people there.
Well since I am a single man obviously it was the women!!!!!!!
Dress Code: Casual although many were there from work so lots of suits. The ladies, well they all know how to dress in Moscow trust me on this one.
