Guilly's: The best steaks in Moscow

by TheWanderingCamel Written Jul 9, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

An intimate cellar restaurant, serving great steaks, ribs, burgers, etc - not cheap by any standard but the food is excellent and the service spot-on. The choice of wines is good.
Guilly's certainly lives up to its reputation as "The best steakhouse in Moscow"

Favorite Dish: Beautiful steaks - sirloin, fillet, rib-eye (my favourite) and a whopping T-bone, cooked perfectly and served with your choice of sauces.
Satisfyingly sticky and spicy fall-off the-bone ribs had Mr L smiling.

    Great steaks

    American Cuisine: Starlite Diner

by Canadienne Updated Oct 16, 2003

We had joined a Patriarshy Dom tour and the meeting spot was the Starlite Diner, so we decided to go a bit early and have breakfast. This turned out to be a very bad idea ~ the coffee was okay, but I highly recommend avoiding food at this restaurant.

Favorite Dish: I had French toast and my mother had eggs and ham or bacon. Neither one of us quite knew what to make of our food. My French toast bore no resemblance to anything that had once been bread. . .instead it was like uncooked dough in the middle. It was entirely unedible. My mother's eggs were rubbery and equally distasteful.

You would think we would have learned our lesson from the bad experience at the Starlite Diner experience, but my mother's "sheltered" life in Saudi Arabia meant that she was really craving a hearty, traditional breakfast. We gave it another try at this popular ex-pat restaurant. It wasn't as bad as Starlite certainly, but if you can wait for the return home to have your eggs & bacon breakfast, you'll be much better off doing so.

Favorite Dish: I had a sandwich and fries, my mom had an omelette. . .both were edible, but unremarkable.

    Scott's: Dinner and a Movie

Scott's apartment! One night we decided to stay in and just get sloppy drunk and watch videos. We bought some pirate videos in the subway, stopped at Stcokman's Supermarket and bought prepared food. We came back, made Black Russians and did exactly what we set out to do.

Favorite Dish: After 6 Black Russians made with Russian Standard vodka and Kahluha it all tastes the same.

Starlite Diner: A Piece of Real America

    by Anya_D Updated Oct 31, 2003

It is a well-spread opinion that the expression "American cuisine' is an oxymoron. However, you will discover that it's not after you visit this place. The food is not very sofisticated, that's right, but REALLY DELICIOUS! And the dishes are just huge.

    Open 24 hours

Favorite Dish: Try Oreo Coctail. Try Apple Cider. Try Cheese cake. Try Fajitos. Try nachos. Try onion soup. Try steaks... salmon... shrimps... burgers, after all. Everything's wonderful. They have a crafty chef there.

Flat Iron Bar & Restaurant: A touch of Marriott's America in Moscow

by gordonilla Written Oct 1, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Great restaurant, good food, not so expensive - attentive staff and it opens until 2am daily! So if you arrive late from the airport like I did, don't worry you will get a warm welcome from the Flat Iron staff.

Favorite Dish: I had a Fillet Steak on the first night and Chicken Fajitas on the second night. Good salad and french fries too.

The cheese platter is a little worrying, I have never been so keen on orange coloured cheddar cheese, but it was fine - try one of the sweeter desserts.

    Coffee is good too!

Starlite Diner: THE American diner in Moscow

by livfaith Written Oct 5, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you're looking for American food in Moscow, you're not short of choice, but for me Starlite diner stands head and shoulders above the competition. You can find tasty classic diner food at a great price. Lots of choice of burgers, sandwiches, steak, salads and many other things that make my mouth water just to think about! The milkshakes are delicious and so is the fresh juice - you can mix several different fruits together to create your perfect combination. The decor is complete American diner with lots of comfortable booths. It is open 24 hours and it even has no-smoking areas. The staff all speak English if your Russian is slightly below par! All-in-all it's the perfect place to go if one too many babushki have shouted at you or the hot water has been turned off in your building for no comprehensible reason and Russia is just too much for you and you want to hide from it all for an hour or so! There are several locations around Moscow (Pushkinskaya, Polyanka/Tretyakovskaya, Mayakovskaya, Universitet and Oktyabruskaya) so you're never too far from a giant plate of burger and fries! See the website for addresses and a menu.

Favorite Dish: It's always a difficult choice between the Cowboy and the Bacon Blue Cheese Burger!

Hard Rock Cafe: Really friendly staff

by vichatherly Written Aug 25, 2008

Everybody has heard of the Hard Rock Cafe chain. As the weather was awful for most the time during our stay in Moscow, we spent a lot of time here. I see from their website that it's supposed to shut at midnight during the week, but I suppose they stayed open for us because they saw a good thing!

    Tuesday night - 23:00 to 03:30
    Wednesday - Pre match 13:00 to 21:00
    Thursday - Post match 04:00 to 07:30

Excellent atmosphere in here, and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. They must have worked some incredibly long shifts as most of them were there all of the time that we were. I hope the took a few days off after we left.

Favorite Dish: I had the basic steak and chips, along with plent of pitchers of beer.

American Steak House Louisiana: American Steak House

I expected to find many Americans in this restaurant, but everybody was Russian, and they like it!
The dishes are prepared on grill stones and you have a great choice of beefsteaks cooked on charcoal. I also saw preparing grill fish.
For intimacy there is a private room called VIP Sheriff, and it is always busy with fat people of grave aspect talking about their business.

The place in Moscow where you can get a meal of the Wild West around-the-clock. Classic atmosphere of an American bar, homemade American cuisine and warm Russian hospitality - what more could a tired Moscow cowboy possibly ask for? All this awaits you at "American Bar and Grill", or simply "AmBar".
Nothing so special. If you like it - enjoy.

    Favorite Dish: Hamburgers,
BBQ ribs and other dishes are made to the best traditions of American home cooking.

We went to some local places and had the food which was OK, but it was the TGIFs just off Red Square where we had the most fun. Great atmosphere and the drinks were so cheap
The barstaff were very friendly and entertaining

Being American I was pleased to find a Starlight Diner. It is also near Red square and it is not cheap but not on the high end either. The meats are imported from the US. Nice to have a reminder of home.
Service and menus are in both English and Russia. The staff also speaks both languages.

    Favorite Dish: Steak baby!!!!!!

American Starlight Diner. Just as it sounds. Great food we are used to after you have tried the many good Russian places. For those who are always playing it safe there is McDonalds.
Medium priced. High end Russian restaurants are normally expensive but good.

Favorite Dish: The diner is a great place for Saturday and Sunday breakfast. Not just westerns but the local like it too.
