Mu Mu (Cyrillic spelling: My My) is a Russian chain of cafeteria style restaurants. They have several branches in Moscow. I once visited the place at the street ul. Arbat, which is probably one of the most popular locations.

Outside of the restaurant is a large bilingual Russian English menu next to a life size cow. The menu lists all sorts of Russian and Estern European dishes.

Once inside you have to take a tray and order and pay the food at the counter. Then you can sit down at one of the dark wooden tables in the two-storey restaurant. Before you order your food it is recommended to check if there are enough free tables available.

Café Mu Mu is a great place to try a few traditional specialities like the beetroot soup Borscht, several shashliks or pelmeni.

Depending on what you order a full meal will set you back about 300 to 400 Rubles (less than 10 Euro, 2009).

Directions:
The Café Mu Mu which I visited can be found almost in the middle of the pedestrianised street ul. Arbat. The nearest metro stops are "Arbatskaya" and "Smolenskaya" on the blue line.

I do not know why Moo-Moo chain was awarded at VT with a separate "cuisine" locator.

Actually this is a kind of fast-food chain, better to say self-service restaurant, as meals are of restautant quality. Cuisine is mainly local (Russian), but there are so many choises that it could be call "Eclectic/International" either.

Favorite Dish: - Chicken with Pineapple salad - this is more Indian style, with carry.
- big choise of barbeque things - very good

The restaurant's name is "Mu-mu". Just to explain : Mu-mu is the novel written by Russian famous writer Ivan Turgenev. Mu-mu is a dog who's lord was deam&deaf and hence couldn't call the dog by any other name.
The cuisine is typical Russian local (soup, pelmeni, many salads, etc). But chairs are painted white with black spots, so my friend from Moscow supposed that perhaps Mu-mu was a Dalmatian :)

Favorite Dish: I generally like pelmeni and salads, so let's say it was my favourite.

For a great, inexpensive Russian meal, hop into the ever present line at Moo-Moo. The restaurant is cafeteria style so you can view the food before you order it, there is an English menu on the wall and many of the servers spoke English.

For around $10 (300 roubles), the two of us were able to eat quite well

Favorite Dish: The meat filled pancakes were awesome, my husband enjoyed the borscht, the pelmeni were good.

A russian fast food self service. Nice and comfortable you can choose from many dishes, starters, soups, meat, fish. For one person you can eat very well with 250 roubles (7 euros). There are many restaurants of this chain in Moscow so you can enjoy it in a tourist walking day.

You will recognize Moo-Moo restaurant (Russian: Му му) by its black-and-white Holstein-print decor and big cow-statue in front of. This is cafeteria-style service and is a good way to taste Russian food.
Our tour guide recommended this food change as good and inexpensive. The entire menu is self-service.

Moo-Moo is a budget-friendly, cafeteria-style restaurant with a rather large selection of Russian dishes. There may be menus in English at the entrance, but if you don't speak Russian, you will likely have to point out what you want once it is your turn to order because the staff's English is generally limited. However, don't let that, or the length of the queues (they move fast), deter you from trying out this friendly place.

We liked Moo-Moo's food and atmosphere so much, we ate there twice (although at two different locations) during our stay in Moscow. However, as we travelled outside of Moscow during the following weeks, we realized how sweet the drinks were at Moo-Moo. Both the kompots and kissels we tried later on seemed quite bitter in comparison -- though they were probably closer to the real thing. Therefore, those who don't have a sweet tooth should stay away from the syrupy Moo-Moo concoctions.

Moo-Moo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

There are a few of these cafeteria style restaurants that serve Russian Food. the food is tasty and not too expensive. They have these cows in front of some. This is the Arbat street one.
