    The Tavrichesky Sad (Gardens) are located at the end of Furshtatskaya St. a few blocks from Chernishevskaya metro. Also called the Gorodskoy detsky park, City Children's Park and Tauride Garden just to make things confusing.

    It is named for Potemkin of Tauride, the famous Russian who conquered Crimea, once called Tauride. Potemkin was the favorite of Catherin II the Great.

    It is composed of lakes and paths that wander through trees and grass and flowers.
    There are several children playgrounds and cafes and many to make it a nice place to walk and sit.

    The indoor Flowers Exhibiton Hall off Potemkin Street is next door and worth a look.

    This is a place where you've to wake up very early & make your way there b4 its opening!
    We queued almost 3 hours just to get in!
    The crowd was well... just look!

    Is it worth the wait?
    Depends on what you are here for.
    A piece of Russian history?
    The Baroque architecture?
    The Amber Room?
    or perhaps just a glimpse of what Catherine I, Elizabeth I & Catherine II were living in.

    Whichever the reason, if you are lucky enough to enter this country, make the most of it by seeing as much as possible!

    This is the Summer Palace of Peter the Great.
    Fountains & parks are the major draw to this seaside "resort" of the Russian imperial family.

    Terraces of waterfalls, fountains & gardens sloping down towards the Gulf of Finland...
    A majestic display of elegance & might.

    Popularly called the "Russian Versailles", it is in fact very different from the French layout.
    I've been to both...
    Versailles is awesome but lacks the seaside factor. While Peterhof has that indescribable feeling of peace when one walks in its ground.
    Going to both is an experience in itself.
    Enchantment lies in whether one likes the parks or the palace itself.

    Thje Unona outdoor market south of the center is one of the interesting spots to see where locals in the suburbs sometimes shop.
    Prices are cheaper outside the center, but it takes over an hour to get there and you need to take Metro to Avtovo then bus to the market.
    It was awful cold in this day in October.
    This is the 2nd hand flea market outside the greater market. Tools, household repair items, garage sale items , potpourri can be found here. Continuing on you come to the greater market which has every kind of new merchandise. From computers to mittens. CDs, software, DVD, electronics of all kinds. You must haggle a bit on price on most things and it does not help to be a foreigner. You never know what you will see there. Foreigners are rare here.
