Don't remember, don't worry you'll find it anyway!: Don't miss the real genuine Georgian cuisine!

It is a small cosy restaurant, decorated with paintings for sale by Gerogian artists. It can offer everything from the ordinary steak to the most exclusive georgian specialities! Depending on your budget you can have a good Georgian wine (known as the best in former Sovjet union) or go for a cheaper but still tastefull russian beer. The restaurant is not expensive. I don't remember exactly, but if I could eat there as a student...

Favorite Dish: Try their special pre courses, you can ask for a mix and you will get a small buffet on your table and are able to try a little from them all!
For main course I recommend their Chicken. They bring it directly from the owen and cut it for you on the table. Usually it's well enough for 4 persons.
For dessert, ask what they recommend!

    Georgian Cuisine: Ket Cafe

Enter a small restaurant, lit by candles...the walls are dark green, and the furniture is mahagony. A very intimate and cozy atmosphere. There are photos on the walls of celebrities who have dined there, but the place feels like a "best kept secret."

Favorite Dish: Try the khakchipury, which is a bit like a pizza. It's a baked bread with melted cheese. I was at this restaurant after working for 12 hours, so sorry if I can't remember exact names for other dishes - but be adventurous! It's all good. :-)

I have been there several times with my French friend, who nearly missed her train because of another dish she wanted to taste. Friendly service and live music in the evening make this place cozy, but there is a smoking area. You better book a table on weekends : +7 (812) 325-65-00
Mobile: 8 (911) 717-19-36. Dinner for two with wine about EUR50. It is located near my house:). You can order take away cakes and a meat pie (kubdari)

    Favorite Dish: Hachapuri, kubdari

cozy small cafe near metro station Gorkovkaja

I have took salad with cucumbers and tomatos + fried cheese + red wine (100ml). It cost about 16$. I don't think that these cost so much. Expensive but very friendly atmosphere. It seems like this cafe is a family business.

    Erevan: Great Armenian food

    by filip007 Written Nov 10, 2007

Restaurants offering Caucasus cuisine are my favorite in Russia, but Erevan really takes the experience even higher.

Nice views of the Fontanka, restaurant decorated with taste by armenian designers, great attentive service and great food that goes beyond the usual shashlyk or khadzapuri.

The best from Caucasian restaurants I tried so far in Russia...

And while the prices are of course higher, not much so - count between 2000 and 3000 rubles for two people, depending on the drinks

Favorite Dish: Everything we ate was great, but I would recommend something with either cheese or eggplants for starters and then one of typical armenian foods with lamb or - sturgeon. If you never tasted sturgeon, do it... Just to show that the meat has nothing to envy to caviar... (actually tastes like a cross between salmon and white fish - excellent). As for the desert, I am a traditionalist - bakhlava...

As for the drinks, you can go for the surprisingly good armenian wine (the dry one), then finish the meal with an armenian brandy and their house specialty - mountain herbal tea done from several mint varieties...

A long-time restaurant featuring Chebureki, ground meat inside a deep-fried pocket.

Chebureki are a favorite restauant food from Soviet times. It is Georgian fare, where Stalin came from.

It was usually served cafeteria style and very reasonable price.

This one has been here a long time and has clean, pleasant decor.

Favorite Dish: Chebureki, serving of four on a plate

  • Aragvi: Cosy restaurant with great Georgina cuisine!

One of my all time favorites! Nice interior, fireplace, cosy atmosphere, good service, but the best thing about this place is cuisine! All egg plant dishes are wonderful, fresh salads, hachapuri with home cheese, and classics like satzivi, hinkali, and harcho soup. They also serve home wine made of Izabella grapes.

Kavkaz Bar: Good food, bad service

    by filip007 Written Nov 10, 2007

Restaurant near the Nevski prospect, offering traditional caucasian cuisine. While the food was good, the environment is slightly more cheap (plastic fruits as decoration) and feels a little "touristy" - but most of the guests were russian...

And the service - even in Russia I had rarely encountered so appalling service giving you the feeling you are not welcome (at least given the restaurant prices). And in spite of all this, the restaurant was full...

So you will not be disappointed by the food, but if you are looking for caucasian cuisine, for a slightly higher price, I would recommend Erevan (see my other tip).

Favorite Dish: I love khadchapuri and mutton or lamb shashlyks, so this is an always favourite...

    Kiosk: Shaverma Kiosk

    Shaverma Kiosk at Pionerskaya Metro

Shaverma (fajitas) is delicious food for a small hungry from Caucasus, I think. Meat, salad and sauce are put inside a pita bread. The meat should be rosted chicken or maybe lam, but they tell that it may be dog, cat, ... - who knows! However - it's delicious and is sold always clock around, and almost everywhere.

    pita sandwich

All around town you can find some little kiosks that sell these pita sandwiches. They kind of reminded me of gyros. I didn't know exactly what they were made of - and maybe it was better that way, seeing as there seemed to be an awful lot of stray dogs and cats running around the streets of St. Petersbug - but they were cheap and delicious. They were a good place to grab a bite on the go.

    Favorite Dish: Pita sandwiches
