    Cavier: Bring a big Wallet

We thought we would bring some back as we heard it was a bargain here. We went in several food stores , where our tour booked recommended we go....we did find it but way too expensive. It started at $ 70.00 for about 50 grams ....and went up to $1100.00 .I'm sure it was amazing but I'd be afraid to eat it ....we decided to enjoy the stuff on the boat back to Helsinki.

    The Bazaar: Best for Souvineers

by easterntrekker Written Jan 6, 2014

    The Bazaar
We have a plan as to what we are interested in before we arrive having checked a few tourist shops already ....it pays to look around as the prices really vary ...so does the quality .We were looking for bambozcas ( little stacking dolls) Great for the grand kids ...even got angry birds and superman ones for the boys..it was good to buy from one vender for best price. We didn't have enough money so we paid part with credit card ...had to use three different machines ( which his friends gladly lent) finally one connected.

    What to pay: Bargain!

    CD, DVD, CD-ROM

by HORSCHECK Updated Apr 25, 2010

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Russia seems to be a very popular place for all kinds of pirate CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMs. You even get pirate products in many shops or at kiosks in metro stations and underpasses, so not only in hidden places.

There are rumours that the quality of the pirate products is not always satisfying. These music CDs are on offer for about 80 to 150 Rubles (2005).

Also new licensed products are still a bit cheaper than in Western Europe.

Yarkiy Mir: Photography: Copying memory cards to CD

by iblatt Written Oct 1, 2008

St Petersburg was probably more photogenic than I had anticipated, and during my 1 week stay there I took many photos (too many?) and finished my memory card. There is nothing as frustrating as reading the message "Memory card full" just when you are about to take the most amazing photo from the most unusual angle.

It proved even more frustrating to find a photo shop which could copy the memory card to a CD. I found Yarkiy Mir photo shop on 6 Nevsky Prospect, a modern, efficient and well-equipped business. On their business card I found addresses of several other branches, and here they are:
    148 Nevsky Prospect
    1 Nekrasova
    24 Sadovaya
    87 Nevsky Prospect
    50 Bolshoi Prospect
I am not sure that all these other branches provide this service.

Hope this will save you, fellow VT members, a similar frustrating experience!

What to buy: In this shop: copying memory cards to disc, and also developing and printing photos and many other services.

What to pay: The price was very reasonable.

    Secondhand PhotoStore: 2nd Hand Cameras

by sennaya Written Dec 24, 2007

Conveniently located on Nevsky Prospect just Southeast of Sadovaya Street, this is a favorite spot to look for used cameras.
They have Russian "Leicas", big 6x9 Kiev (Like Pentax 6x7) and sometimes my favorite- a Sputnik, a 120mm Stereo camera!
This shop used to be crowded to get into before digital cameras took over. Now you can look peacefully and study some unique mechanical cameras.

What to buy: There are quite a few cool-looking Soviet era cameras

    What to pay: $20-$200

Hip-Hop Pimp Shop: Hip-Hop lands with Mr. Pimp

by sennaya Updated Feb 13, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Hip-Hop Pimp shop. What more is there to say?

Hip-hop culture, music, break dancing and prolific graffiti, has fertile ground in Russia because it was not allowed in 1970 when hip-hop culture started in America.
The grafitti branding is found in arches, courtyards, buildings and fences and as happened in America, the local government is playing catchup to stop the vandalism part of the activity.

What to buy: Avoid the shop if you are from America. If you need this kind of thing, find it at home.

    different: Shopping centers

by multi Written Oct 3, 2006

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

At last time in Saint Petersburg appeared very many big shopping centers. You can find there all what you want. At first floor usually situated food store, on the middle floors situated clothes stores, food area and cinema on last floor.
In every district there are 2-3 big shopping centers, usually they are near metro stations.
    for example:
Grand Canyon, m. Pr. Prosveshenia http://www.grandcanyon.ru/
    Pik, m. Sennaja http://www.tk-pik.ru/
    Gulliver, m. Staraja Derevnja http://www.gulliver.spb.ru/

  • Hmmmm forgot the name :): Digital Camera

by asimk Written May 29, 2005

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It was on the main Nevinsky road and with Yellow interior ..... I mean I think the main theme that shop had was of yellow colour.

What to buy: Frankly speaking while doing window shopping and doing the calculation I thought everything was much more expensive then KSA, so I was just going through this electronics shop and to my surprise I found Cameras and mobile phones to be of much cheaper price then KSA so I immediately bought the Canon 5mp digital camera for my brother and I was kind of scared thinking that it maynot have the international warranty but it had everything so I think it was really a good buy and here in KSA this same camera is 200USD more expensive. Similarly I compared the prices of mobile phones and they were cheaper too.

So I definitely recommend to shop for these electronic items.

    Selling Flowers

by sophiebeans Written Feb 10, 2005

You will see many women selling flowers on the streets. It is good manners to bring flowers with you when you are invited to a person's home in Russia. Just make sure that if you buy flowers for a Russian, they are in an odd-numbered bunch! Even numbered flowers symbolize death to Russians!
