    The Petrovsky Stadium is home to the local football club FC Zenit St. Petersburg. The stadium was inaugurated in 1924 and has a capacity of 22.300. It is located on a small island and there are only two bridges which lead to the Stadium. Both are guarded by safety guards. One of them didn't let me in, whereas the other one was friendly enough to let me pass.
    Getting into the Stadium wasn't too much of a problem, so that I could take some photos. Unfortunately, Zenit played an away match when I was in St. Petersburg.

    This is just kind of a funny story, not really a "tip", I guess. But when we were picked up at the port to be taken into the city what arrived to get us was the bus belonging to the St. Petersburg Football team. Apparently everyone in the city knows the bus by sight and thought that we WERE the football team when were driving by. We were told that this bus was sent because it is the nicest one that they have in the city, which in many ways shows how deeply the people care about the impression they make on foriegners.

    Scaled down Formula 1 racing with many competitions. The cars can go 50 KPH, so it is not for little children.

    Children can go on Bumber cars at Divo Ostrov, by Krestovsky Ostrov Metro.

    Expensive! Rent it for about 3000-10,000 rubles ($300) an hour depending on type.

    The Petrovsky Stadium is host to the Zenit Soccer, the famous futbol team from St. Petersburg.
    The Stadium became well-known after hosting Goodwill Games in 1994.

    The stadium is scheduled to be leaved by team later in 2006.
    The team is planning to move to a new remodeled Kirov Stadium in 2009. See other tip for Zenit Kirov Project.

    If you are a "Zenit" soccerclub-fan and want to watch match at Petrovskiy Stadion (former Lenin-stadion) and you are short of money, you may climb up on the roof of the nearest house. Or you may try to find a friend who is living upper floors of that house, and visiting there during matches. I'm lucky having friend living in the house of the photo.

    If you are lucky to catch a match of the local Zenith St.Petersburg while being in the city, make sure to pay a visit to their Petrovsky Stadium. Tickets might be hard to find, but it is really worth it. Lately Zenith has become a strong challenge for the traditional Moscow giants.

    The colours of the local team are sky blue and white.

    Projects of new football (soccer) stadium
    The Governments of Saint Petersburg has started the projects for the international architectural competition. It will be a new modern football stadium on Krestovsky island for not less than 60,000 people, meeting the requirements UEFA and FIFA, complex development and an accomplishment of adjoining territory. The planned volume of investments totals 250 million US dollars.
    The commission of experts under presidency of the Governor of Saint Petersburg V.I.Matvienko and Chairman of Board of Open Society " Gazprom " A.B.Miller by definition of the best architectural decision under the civil-engineering design of new football stadium on Krestovsky island from the works submitted on competition has preferred the Japanese project "Spacecraft" (" Kisho Kurokawa architect and associates "). Under the preliminary information the stadium will be constructed by 2009.

    Just your eyes for now and some patience to see what will be.
