  • Kizhi. It will take you probably at least a day to get from St.Petersburg to Kizhi and another day to get back, but it's worth it. Museum of wooden architecture, a totally unique Russian experience. Kizhi is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Many buildings are constraucted without a single nail. Exhibitions of various ethnicities living in Karelia region, ancient russian church and applied art.

  • Tip Rating:
  • I strongly reccomend taking at least a day and visit some of the beautiful country regions around the city.
Just take a train to any direction you like, stop at some village and just walk around. There are many beautiful forrests and lakes, and you can also find fruits and mushrooms (although you should be an expert in these things, you might get poisoned)
Many russians have dahcas. It's a sort of summer house in the country. My dacha was located in 'Tretii kilometer' or 'the third kilometer'. Just take a train to 'Mga', and the next stop after Mga is 'tretii kilometer'. There are 2 lakes, and one of them is not a natural lake - it created after a bomb fell there during WW2. But as I said, it doesn't matter whrere you'll go - it'll still be beautiful.

    City Environs: Pavlovsk
  • Tip Rating:
  • Pavlovsk was built for RussianTsar Paul I, only son of Catherine th Great. The arcitect who built the palace was the Scottish Charles Cameron and others like Rossi.
I strongly reccomend a walk around the beautiful gardens, and you should also visit the palace, which was the summer palace for the Tsar and the family.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Take a tour bus (there are plenty of them on the main street looking for tourist groups) and go to a small town called Peterhof not far from St Petersburg. In Peterhof you will find a summer residence of Russia's tzar. You can visit that palace as well and enjoy the well-lead guided tour. There is a beautiful and original garden with fountains around the palace!

  • Tip Rating:
  • when visiting Pushkin you must have a guide, to go through all the rooms and inform you of what each room was used for - some are obvious. This is one of the dinning rooms - everything about this room spells royalty.
