    the City was named after Lenin after the Revolution of 1917, the Statue errected 1927, I think! Lenin looks towards the River Neva after the Soviet Union opend up to the west, Leningrad got its old name back: Saint Petersburg

    Actually, this is just a photo of one of the many rooms leading to the Amber Room. It is not allowed to take pictures inside, which is just as well since my camera battery died just as we stepped inside!

  • Celebrate the day, June 12, 1990 when the Russian Parliament declared it's independence and sovereignty and the Russian Federation was founded and the USSR was dissolved. The holiday has changed its name twice. Started by Boris Yeltsin In 1991, it was named Independence Day. then in 1994 was renamed to Day of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation and finally on 1 February 2002 was renamed to Russia Day! Starting in 2003 it was celebrated in a broad way with the support of President Vladimir Putin.
