    We found this statue right in front of the Hermitage. It had come down during the night. Not something that you would like to hit your head when you would take a stroll accross the square in front of the Hermitage. But we had quite a bit of fun with it.

    ... they're bad for your health:( (However they are much more cheap than in my homecountry Sweden...)

    Again, my relentless need for documentation got me in trouble! My friend and I stopped by this Mc Donalds after walking around the city all night. I wouldn't have ordinarily stopped there because - hey, we've got enough of those in the U.S., but we were hungry and tired and everything else was closed. I got a kick out of seeing everything on the menu written in cyrillic so I took a picture. I got yelled at by the security guard. By this time I think my friend was getting pretty ticked off at me, too for putting her in all these embarrassing situations. By the way, the Mc Donalds food in Russia takes exactly the same as it does in America.

    Be careful when you throw out your trash.
    First, it will be sorted by dumpster divers
    and second someone might be in there to throw it back at you!

    I'll keep this nice and simple: Don't EVER try to keep up with the Russians when it comes to alcohol! The stereotypes about their drinking habits are true!

    Whilst we're on drinking, stay clear of the really cheap vodka, it's just too nasty. My personal favourite is Russky Standart (apparently Putin's favourite!).

  • Just be warned that all tourist destinations (churches, museums etc) will have a Russian admission price and a foreigner admission price. Unless you can speak perfect Russian with a passable accent, don't even try to pay the local price.

  • No a very safe city. Better to visit with a tour. And beware of your cameras and other electronics you may carry. The waters are polluted. Even if you see people bathing as in a beautiful beach: DO NOT GO INTO THE WATERS!
