    Shipping in Moyka
    by LanaFromRiga
As a mentioned in my first St.Petersburg travel page there are many canals and rivers. You will have an interesting exursion by ship an time you like: morning, day or night. Night trips by ship are expensive than day exursions. For example, for the day trip you will pay 200 RUB (5,8EUR) for the night trip - 400RUB (11.60EUR).
In the photo is Moyka - the most famous river in St.Petersburg.

Ekateina's II residence, Pushkin town. You have to go by metro till station "Moskovskaya" and find maxi taxi buses. Ticket costs 25 RUB (0.72EUR). The town's name Pushkin because there is the school where Alexandr Pushkin was learning. Befor that time the town name was "Tsarskoye selo" ("Kings residention). In the Ekaterina's II palace is famous Amber room. It isn't original amber room, but the great renovated variant.

    Lada, Russia's people's car.

Late model Lada. ..3 of 8 cars
    in pic are British!
    by mwe
If Chevrolet is the iconic American brand, then Lada is surely the car that symbolises Russia and (especially) the latter years of the USSR. I feel this page will be incomplete without paying tribute to this modern classic.
Lada is the brand name which the cars made by Autovaz (ABTOBA3) are known by in the west.
Lada first came to Britain at the 1973 London motorshow & debuted in 1980 in Canada. They were never sold in the USA.

After a slow start in Britain, Ladas became very popular during the late 1970s & 1980s. When you looked at their prices & saw what alternatives were available for Lada money you can see why:
In 1979 in Britain (source: "What Car?" March, 1979), a 4-door Lada 1200 saloon cost £2,056.
The Lada 1200's rivals on price included the 3-wheel, 2-door Reliant Robin (£2042) & the basic Mini 850, £2157.
The Lada 1200 was based on the 1966-'74 Fiat 124. The price rival in the 1979 Fiat range was a 127 900L at £2272.

    Cars that were physically comparable to the £2056 Lada 1200 in its 1979 UK heyday included Vauxhall's Chevette 1256E 4-door at £2566. Ford Popular Plus 1300 4-door £2671. Morris Marina 1300 4-door, £2967. Fiat 131 1300L 4-door, £3016 and Triumph Dolomite 1300, £3265.
The classic Fiat 124-shape Lada is still sold today as the 1.5-litre 2105 3 and the more upmarket 2107 which has a posher grille, high-back seats & a 1.6-litre option: these cars used to be sold in Britain as the Lada Riva.
The collapse of the USSR spooked the market & new Lada sales ceased in Britain in the 1990s.

If Lada are cars for the masses, then Volgas are the iconic big car in Russia & the former USSR.

Wikipedia seems to be the best website, detailing past & present models.

Saint Petersburg Metro is formerly known as Leningrad Metro, the system exhibits many typical Soviet designs and features exquisite decorations and artwork making it one of the most attractive and elegant metros in the world.

Due to the city's unique geology, the Saint Petersburg Metro is the deepest subway system in the world (~80m). Serving nearly three million passengers daily, it is also the 16th busiest subway system in the world.
The Leningrad Metro, which was designed before the war in the 1930s, was finally completed and opened in 1955.

The metro works between 5:45 and 24:00 and trains run every 95 seconds during rush hour and every 4 minutes the rest of the day.

    FARES
Single ticket (zheton - token) - 17 roubles

    crazy traffic
    by eksvist, 4 more photos
Traffic in St-Petersburg is quite crazy. I prefer to move in there by metro, bus or marshrutka.

Marshrutka is a share taxi in Russia. The role of the modern Marshrutka is basically similar to the minibus in other countries except some implementations of Marshrutka do allow standing capacity.

The cars, what moving on the streets of the city, are usually very expensive (Hummer limousines) or in bad condition russian cars (Lada).

Often the traffic rules not matter for drivers. So we saw, when one driver stop the car right on the pedestrian crossing and started to read the newspaper.

I put in here one photo about militsia (russian police) car too.
