  • Hydrofoil

    Peterhof Transportation

Probably the best way to visit Peterhof is to take a hydrofoil across the Gulf of Finland to the jetty at the end of the Marine Canal. Three companies run regular hydrofoil services through the summer months from the Hermitage jetty, Angliskaya Naberezhnaya next to the Senate Building, and Universitetskaya Naberezhnaya next to the Academy of...

After lunch my granddaughter went walking around the gardens with the guide to see the fountains and statues. I just slowly made my way up to the Grand Palace to meet them where the driver was to pick us up. I did see some of the Grand Cascade, the most famous ensemble of fountains, which runs from the northern facade of the Grand Palace to the...

The statue of Neptune was one of the first ones we saw after we got off the...

There is a really giant park around of the Katherine palace and I think you could stay there for a full day in order to explore and really enjoy all of its sights. That little "park-train" that I show in my transportation-tips might be a good idea in order to get a good first overview. We saw a "turkish bathhouse" in the distance and some...

    Kronshtadt Things to Do

The Kronstadt Tide-Gauge has its origins in a horizontal mark cut into the stone pier of a bridge over Kronstadt's Obvodny Canal showing the average water level of the Baltic in the period 1825-40 (established by the outstanding hydrographer Mikhail Reineke). Later a gauge for measuring sea-ievel was installed alongside, its zero reading...

The Clandestine vessel is a prototype of modern submarines. Efim Nikonov (just a peasant!) built and tested it by order and in presence of Peter I in 1820s, not far from that place where this model is now stands.

Kolpino is full of marshrutka-minibuses and larger ones. Most of them are on the routes Kolpino-Zvyozdnaya metro station (south of St. Petersburg) or Rybatskoe metro station (south-east). Final stops are clearly marked on the wind screen and side window. Expect to pay arount 10 to 30 rubles depending on the length of your trip.
There also is a railway station in Kolpino, at which the electrichkas on the main line (SPB-Novgorod, SPB-Malaya Vishera etc.) stop at. Trains leave from Moskovskyi or Obuhovo. More information on trains http://www.tutu.ru
