This region is accessed only by air or cruise ships , no ferries or trains are availibale. This year all direct flights from the USA were cancelled :-( So now travellers can go via MOscow (daily flights ) or via Vladivostok ( http://www.discoveryclub.info/services/air_travel.php ) or Khabarovsk.

Of course , if you are in Petro - you need to go and buy red caviar or smoked salmon or something like that. Go down hotel Avacha - there is a large open air market where you'll find all of that at a very best prices. Everything is labeled with price so you just need to point at what you want. They even allow to try everything before buying :-)

Kamchatka is a special border zone so have your documents in order. Registration, tourist vouchers are important. If you've traveled all over Russia with no registration or lost some documents there is a big chance that migration won't let you in! Be careful
