Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy Things to Do

  • Museum of Military Glory

I was the only visitor to the Museum in the afternoon of Friday. I was most interested in the exhibition devoted to the heroic battle with the British and the French in August of 1854. This episode of the Russian-Turkish war (and, in fact, World War in the XIX century) is incredibly interesting from its military (and heroic) side, and the by the...

Much of the city was built in the Soviet Khrushchev and Brezhnev era, and therefore Petropavlovsk is very much similar to any Russian city with faceless three-four and five-story buildings. Recently, however, it is appeared there a very unusual feature in this architecture. Old houses are lined with bright tiles and strengthen the "bulls" which...

Perhaps I would have never visited this church in Petropavlovsk, if not for its advantageous location on the hill on the road from Yelizovo to the city center. Big blue dome in the snow caught my attention, I initially thought it was - a mosque, but when I saw a small cross on the top, I realized that this was a Christian (but not Orthodox) church....

Yes, I agree, the museum of Local History is in Soviet style! Yes, it is obvious that the most of exhibits were collected in those days, and not much has changed since then. But, if there's only the smallest tourist interest in Kamchatka, a visit to this museum should be included in the program of any person, who came to this wonderful land for the...

Of course , if you are in Petro - you need to go and buy red caviar or smoked salmon or something like that. Go down hotel Avacha - there is a large open air market where you'll find all of that at a very best prices. Everything is labeled with price so you just need to point at what you want. They even allow to try everything before buying :-)

Almost all prices (except sea food and Japanese cars) in Petropavlovsk are 20-50% higher than in continental Russia. It’s because of very complicated logistics.
It was very unusual for me to see Chinese and Japanese currency exchange. I've never seen them in Moscow!

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy What to Pack

Miscellaneous: What do you need to bring with you from Petropavlovsk? Of course - fish products! Where to buy them? You can buy it in the market, but, from my point of view, it is better, for example, in the store main producer Petropavlovsk - FBOR. Vladimir Lenin. in the Bay Seroglazka.
Prices are as follows - the packaging of sockeye salmon salted 400 rubles (10 euro), half-smoked sockeye salmon packing 600 rubles (15 euro), 1800 rubles (45 euro) limb crab per kilo salmon caviar 300 rubles (7,5 euro) per jar.
If you are traveling a lot, you will pack it in a box. Better to take a receipt and certificate of quality, confirming the legality of the purchase (local say, that in the airport you may be sometimes asked, and illegal fish products can not miss on the plane).

You can watch my 1 min 47 sec about Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Video Petropavlovsk Local Delicatesses out of my Youtube channel or here on VT.
