The best way to arrive to Kamchatka peninsula is landing in the administrative center. You can arrive at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy by plane from Seattle (via Anchorage), from Niigata in Japan, from Seoul, or on planes of the Russian air companies from Vladivostok or Khabarovsk.
Helicopter

Given the state of the roads in Kamchatka, helicopter is the choice means of transportation. It is, however, very expensive, and many locals cannot afford it.I strongly advise you to take a helicopter trip for the breathtaking views of the volcanoes. You will anyway if you go see Uzon Caldera and Geyser Valley.
Kamchatka Road (2)

Needless to say, then, that you need 4X4 off-road solid vehicles. The russians typically use these small trucks. We visited the Mudnovky-Gorely region, less than 100 km SW of Petropavlovsk, in these trucks.
Kamchatka road (1)

This is a close-up of a typical Kamchatka road, and...mind you.. this is during the best season possible, in the summer...In other words, there are not really many roads in Kamchatka, more tracks which are very muddy and wet most of the time. And sometimes, there are just no roads at all!
Flying to Kamchatka
by XenoHumph
Aeroflot, the main russian air company, is of course the carrier of choice to fly to Petropavlovsk, the capital of Kamchatka. Flights from the main cities of Russia are available. I flew from Vladivostok. Some american companies also offer flights from Anchorage, Alaska.
