As in most russian cities outside Moscow and St Petersburg, there is a striking contrast between renovated stone and brick buildings in the center and some small wooden houses in bad shape standing not very far...
This one can be seen when going down to the Regional History museum.
Take the ride on the 4km bridge spanning the Amur river north of the town. It gives you really feel the huge size of the river far below and provides nice views of the town and the islands.
(Unfortunately during my visit the weather was really bad, so on the photo, the bridge is barely visible from the promenade along Amur)
We got the chance to visit a high-school there, which I found very interesting! We were shown around the building, into the classrooms and even had the chance to talk with some students, who were studying German in their third year!

The end of June and the beginning of July is the time of strawberries. Walking along the streets or even in markets you can find local people selling this amazing berries. The prices as usual are the same among sellers. In this year 1 killogramm of strawberries will cost you over 100-150 rubles.

Bridge connect the right and left coast of Amur, connect Siberia and the West with the Far East Russia. It is one of the longest bridges in Russia. It's the bridge through the Amur River. Some years ago it was rebuilt. Only one flight of an old one bridge have specially kept for a history. Now the bridge consist of two circles. Bottom - for a railway transportation, top - for automobile transport.
History of the old bridge:
Designing of a unique construction was entrusted to outstanding Russian engineers L.D.Proskurjakovu and G.P.Perederiju. Proskuryakov has designed directly a bridge transition, and Perederiy designed a left-bank part of the approach to the bridge. The project of a farm of a flying structure has been awarded with the Gold medal of the World's fair Paris.
Opening of the Amur bridge has put the last point in construction of the Great Siberian highway.
On Lenin square, some reminding friezes on top of the building on your left when coming from the Muravyovo-Amurskogo street...
Strolling around the streets of Khabarovsk was fun and interesting - it gives you a much better feeling for the city than just sitting in a bus doing sightseeing!
One can take a boat trip over the river. It's a cheap and beautiful trip on which you approach the long bridge over the Amur. (see picture). It's a bridge for both cars and trains.
It is held on the central square (Lenin Sq) in January. Ususally these contries take part in this festival: Russia, China, Korea, Canada and Finland (as far as I remeber).
