We arrived there by train (Transsiberian Railway) and left by plane.

The airport (called Novy airport - KHV) is said to be one of the biggest ones in Russia, but it sure didn't look that way!! The photo shows the waiting area of the domestic departures! To me it looked like a small povincial airport, but then that was in 1993 .....

  • Taking a wedding picture on Lenin square

Lenin square is just on the end of Muravyova-Amurskogo street. A nice square with fountains, flowers, the statue of Lenin (of course) and...... wedding parties. During weekends, all weddings in Khabarovsk come to this place to be portrayed by the fountain. At the time of my visit, I counted at one time six different weddings.

The cars in Khabarovsk will make you feel you are in Japan...Almost all the cars are used cars imported from Japan and even new cars being sold are the versions destined for japanese market. Khabarovsk Warnings and Dangers

  • No swimming in Amur

While there is a small beach right in the city center (just go down the stairs from Komsomolskaya square), crowded during nice days and with a few people bathing in the river, swimming in Amur is really not recommended. The water in the river is polluted mainly from chinese side and can cause really serious diseases...

Khabarovsk What to Pack

  • Packing List

Extra bags might come in handy, if you like to buy some souvenirs, like this delicious honey!!! Khabarovsk is in Siberia, so it can really get cold!!! Be sure to pack warm things! I always like the 'onion principle' - layer by layer! And a nice t-shirt might help you in some of the really overly heated rooms!!!

  • Shorts are not worn....

It is NOT usual to see Russians in shorts, so I take 1 or 2 pair to wear only in the hotel or in the evening to relax. During the day Khakis or dark colored clothes is the guide. Jeans and sneakers are not usual attire either in Russia. These items are very expensive for the people and you will be noticed if you wear them. Check with your guide...
