Krasnaya Polyana can only be reached by road. Therefore from Sochi Adler one can either take public transport or let a car drive through the mountains.

On parking places along the road to Krasnaya Polyana one can find several entertainment. One can be found in my "Warning & Dangers"tips, but another unhurtful form is a dress up party to be photographed as a Caucasian goatherder. These mountainpeople are surrounded with stories and were the first inhabitants in the rough terrain plus still live here in remote valleys and high plains. Price is only a hundred roubles and will give you a original souvenir to take home.

On the road to Krasnaya Polyana (and throughout the whole touristic area along the Black Sea) one finds people that for money will allow you to be photographed with certain animals. Along the sea this can be parrots, falcons and donkeys, which still can be seen as a somewhat dubious kind of honest earning money. However, along the road to Krasnaya Polyana we met people that did exploit a black bear in the same way. Chained (and obviously drugged) one could sit alongside it for a picture. The small bear wasn't even a local sort (according to the appearance it was a Ringbear) so didn't even fit in the Caucasus environment. With some doubts we eventually still choose to be photographed with a Caucasian vulture.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you don't have any special gear, you'll be able to rent everything from skiboots to wollen jackets.
Don't go for expensive clothes, take the most comfortable things you got. No high heels. ;)
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You'll need some, if you're an avid beginner. I didn't take anything, but my friends fetched ointments for bruises and strains
Photo Equipment: Take the biggest memory card you have! Or better even two. You'll be taking pics of just about everything in your sight.
