Now popular around the whole of Russia, Shasliek (the Caucasus and now Russian variant of Barbecue) is something that most Russians cannot get enough of. There must be a pyromaniac in all males here (including myself - hahaha). In a huge variety of cans, drums, barbecueshaped things and more, wood is burned to sharred coal and above the hot sintles, (porc)meat is roasted on long pins. Also vegetables and other things are well-done, to end up in deliscious salads and stews.
Join the Russians in their religious activities and a whole new world will open for you (see also my page about Russia in general).
A visit to one of the Russian Orthodox churches is a very special event full of mysticism. The iconostases of many churches are magnificent and the candlelights and (sometimes present) Gregorian singing give a mysterious atmosphere. Easter is by far the most attended religious day, then masses appear in and even around the church to listen to the traditional "Kristos Vaskris"!
