Okay, this didn't affect us too much but we were on a cruise ship which spent the day at Sochi.
The port authorities kept delaying our docking.
Then the immigration officials had a field day: some passengers were not permitted to enter Russia, even with a required VISA: their passport photos were not similar enough to their actual appearance!
Also, one of the crew was fined $400 for an offence ---it was all of the money that he had on him! (What was he doing carrying $400 around in Sochi and what was his offence? Mmmm...)
How will Sochi cope when the Olympics are there?
Unique Suggestions: VISA
Passport with a recent, good-likeness photo'.
Be prepared to be delayed...and delayed...and delayed...
Fun Alternatives: If you are on a cruise...stay on board for a massage and book a Baltic cruise which covers St.Petes ---the Russians there are far more hospitable!

If you've been to European deciduous woods before do not waste your money visiting the Caucasian Biosphere just outside Sochi!
'This is an oak tree' etc etc.
The guides gave contradicting information.
There was hardly any wildlife.
We were not permitted to leave the concrete paths through the reserve!
The museum was a joke.
The traffic on our way back was awful.
The tour groups were too large and intermingled.
Look at the photos on my 'Things to do' page.
Unique Suggestions: Go in a small group with a qualified guide.
Just don't go!
