  • Swimming in the Black Sea in summer

Sochi was a cult resort in Soviet times first of all because of its warm sea and sunny beaches. The problem was in a very short resort season – since June till September. That’s why the beaches were always overcrowded and it was very difficult to find a free space at the beach. Have a look at the photo where you can see how Irina is getting...

Sochi Warnings and Dangers

  • Sochi and the Winter Olympics 2014

Recently all over the internet, as well as on TV and the papers, the Sochi Olympic wintergames are - sadly enough again - the subject of political reviews. With this small article I would like to emphasise not to let yourself be mislead by the medieval statements of Putin's regime and keep being aware that Russia had millions of hospital people...

  • Unequal and unjustified financial...

One of the most awkward things I see in Sochi in multiple way that I already discovered it in other Russian towns and cities, is the spending of government money. These fundings (always too low as the tax percentage in Russia is on average much to low and doesn;t reckon with height of income) should be for the people. Taking care of their living...

  • Even here, poor outskirts

It's amazing that even here, in this climatological paradise, this "Saint Tropez" of Russia, almost nothing is truely clean. Even in the centre of Central Sochi streets definately can be cheered up by more flowers and at least a more often cleaning job. The more one goes to the outskirts, the more surprised one will be. While in the real Saint...

Russian Banya is the local variant of the traditional Sauna. However, Russian have the tendensy to overdo everything, so the heat is turned up to about 95 degrees Celsius and afterwards (or in between) one cools of in a 8 degrees Celsius mountain river. Most remarkable difference however is the "beating eachother up" custom within the Banya. With...

In 1979 our first son was born and in 1980 – the second son. It was difficult to visit Sochi in that time. But in 1982 my wife let me go to spend my summer vacation in the Caucasus and I saw the Black Sea once again in New Aphon – not far from Sochi. In 1984 my parents let me with my wife go to Sochi to have a rest from our children. Only one week...
