Krasnoyarsk Things to Do

  • Old steam engine

This old locomotive is just outside the main railway station building. Meanwhile the reconstruction of the square is finished. This type of loc is from the series SO17 which was constructed from 1945 onwards.

  • Central square

This huge square is right next to the beginning of the bridge across the river. It is surrounded by the Hotel Krasnoyarsk and the Opera and Ballet Theatre. There is a clock tower, a fountain and a monument.

  • Regional museum

I was very surprised by this modern museum which is western style inside. It's not a dusty old exhibition which you find in so many Russian cities. There are various local lore and historical artifacts to be seen. I consider it a must.I don't remember the entrance fee but it wasn't more than a couple of dollars worth of roubles. It's closed on...

  • Lenin monument

This huge Lenin is standing opposite the city park. If you use the trolleybus going from the city center to the railway station you will quite likely travel on Karl Marx street and then you can just get off when you spot it. We did so on our way to the train station.

  • Try "UKHA" russian fish soup!

Krasnoyarsk was our last destination after cruising on Yenisey river. We were supposed to spend there only one day and decided to better enjoy it's countryside nature, so our friend took us on a half day picnic, if i can call it that way..in fact we spent our time fishing and collecting mushrooms. From the fish we cooked a delicious soup, but...

  • The Divnogorsk Dam

This is the same dam that you can see in the 10 rouble bill and thus it is a popular tourist attraction. It is easy to get to the dam: you can take a ferry from Krasnoyarsk up the Yenisey river. The journey takes about 45 minutes. When the ferry arrives, you can take a taxi to the dam (a few kms).

    :-)
is one of the 3 places I mentioned before...
complete white decoration, with mood changing lights, resident and guest DJ's, incredibly beautiful and friendly service.
...It makes you forget that the sushi they serve is not the best....a must, if you want to:
    a) just see beautiful people
    b) eventually see some of the local prominence
    c) provide your Blancpain some fresh air.

Krasnoyarsk Nightlife

  • extreme sports

the most modern nightclub in Krasnoyarsk, very good music and usual Russian party zone.Instead of local politicians you can see the local mafia.......where is the difference between one and the other ? Fashionable

  • Russian party time

I'm afraid I had only one choice to describe it and I've chosen "Nightclub" because they call themselves such...I reckon it's more a concert-dancing-eating and drinking-live music mix.Quite interesting, you might even meet Alexander Khloponin (current boss of the Krai) on a Friday evening. Fashionable, like everywhere in Russia

  • Opera and Ballet

Krasnoyarsk has a big opera and ballet theatre. You will find it on the big square in front of Hotel Krasnoyarsk right by the big bridge in the center of town.

Krasnoyarsk Transportation

  • By ship/boat

If you plan to do some river travel then you need to travel in summer. I was there in October and that's definitely too late in the season. The river timetable is hanging in the river station or "retchnoi voksal".

  • By train

We took the train from Tomsk to Krasnoyarsk and travelled 3rd class ie Platzkartni. Leaving Krasnoyarsk we took the Baikal Express to Irkutsk. For the Baikal Express you can only buy the tickets once the train left the previous station, only then it is known how many places there are actually on sale. There is no Platzkartni on Baikal Express as...

  • The hydrofoil on Yenisey

It's worthwhile to jump on a ferry and go and see the city and its surroundings from the river Yenisey! The ferry is also how you get to the Dam (see my must see activity tip). I cannot remember the exact price of the ticket but it's not expensive at all.

There is not much graffiti in Russian cities but you can find it. I don't think that there is no future and hope that the future for the young people is brightening up! It just fitted that near the graffiti I saw a dead rat. It just somehow went together...

Krasnoyarsk Off The Beaten Path

  • Divnogorsk dam

This is one of the biggest dams in Russia. Take a bus to Divnogorsk town from Retchnoi Voksal (lower level). From Divnogorsk we took the bus further at a special price to the bridge of the Yenisey (Abakan road) in front of the dam. Not understanding the signs we walked up the road to the dam, heard a loudspeaker, but obviously didn't understand...

  • Stolby National Park

When in Krasnoyarsk please don't miss Stolby. There are minibuses to get here. And come prepared for several hours walk. At the beginning there is a long stretch uphill. Unfortunately the big red granite rocks are not near the road, so you need to walk. It's best to wear to kind of hiking boots. Take something to drink and a snack with you as well...

  • Old architecture

There is not too much pre-Soviet architecture left in the city center. One of the buildings is this concert hall or similar from 1913. In other parts there are also some wooden buildings left.

  • Soviet remnants

All over town you will find Soviet architecture and monuments. When arriving by train it's worth having a quick look at this mosaic which is on a wall just outside the railway station to your right as you leave ie after coming down the staircase.

  • Yenisey bridge

This impressive bridge is the lifeline to the other part of the city on the opposite bank. You can take a marshrutka (minibus) to cross it. On the other side you will also see a tram line. On the city center side you will travel by mini buses or overcrowded trolleybuses which are full of pensioners. The Yenisey river is very wide and you can take a...
