Historical, architectural and art museum " New Jerusalem " - one of the oldest state museums in Moscow suburbs. It stores numerous historical and art values (archeological and ethnographic collections, Russian and foreign graphic and decorative art, icon-paintings, obverse and ornamental sewing, documents, hand-written and rare printed books, copper moulding, subjects of life of different epoch). But the main object of studying and exhibiting is the monastic ensemble - history of its creation, architectural and art advantages, process of its restoration.
Sergiev Posad is one of the Golden Ring towns and is the major religious centre in Russia. Itýs easy to get to ý just an hour away from Moscow, and thus makes a convenient day (or half-day) trip.
The star attraction is the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, a monastery founded by St. Sergij Radonezhskij ý the most revered Russian saint. For those who are not very interested in religion, the place offers fine architecture, interesting museums, tombs of several famous figures (like the Godunov family) and an insight into the history of the Russian state and art.
I have already made some tips on my Sergiev Posad pge, though this page is still a fair way from what I would like it to be.
