Vous êtes bien en Sibérie !

    by Klod5 Written Nov 15, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You are well in Siberia !

Snow remains from November at end of April. Six months to splash about in the mud when it is hot (around zero degrees C), and to walk like a cow on ice when it makes less thirty. The worse moment : the soft snow, where one has the impression to walk in the moss, and the thaw in the spring, when a meter of snow must melt and must evacuate itself... the streets turn into torrents, and the Siberian in frogs.

    Novosibirsk by night (Postal card)

From the month of November, the night falls early. And it is going to last all the winters, until the end of the month of February. As soon as the night fell, the temperatures come down from dizzy way. The inhabitants hurry to go back at home after their work. After 20 hours, there is not anybody practically more in the streets.
Except in the center of Novosibirsk, animate all night long by the new rich...

    Siberian barbecue

    by Klod5 Written Nov 1, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Siberian barbecue

The Siberian adore the barbecues (it says itself in the same way).
But as the hard summer here three or four months, they decided to make some all year round. By -30 degrees, does one wonder if meat is going to cook or to freeze ? And if one will have the time to eat it hot, or if one is going to suck some ice cubes... Good, this system functions, meat succeeded in cooking, our accomplices are not frozen, and we ate well, hot, but we went back to eat inside !!!
    * note that for a Siberian, when it makes - 10 degrees : it is hot!

Les gateaux de Paques : les koulitchs

    by Klod5 Written Nov 1, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Koulitchs

For Easter (the orthodox Easter are one week after the Catholic feast), one prepares the traditional cakes: the koulitchs.
They exist some of all sizes, for all appetites (and the families more or less big). They are sold the morning, after the exit of the Mass, then all day. The sale of the cakes by the schoolchildren (or the children of the parish), always attract a big treads, and a lot of arms are necessary all to sell very quickly!
It is about a cake, decorated over on the with sugar, freezes melted, and of the different motives.

    Siberian nature

    Forest

(populus, salix...)

Around Akademgorock, the nature is wild and preserved. It is truly a city to the country that has been constructed there for the scientists of the soviet time.
The forests are essentially composed of pines and birches (pinus, betula), but one also finds all gases that like the humidity of these soils, nearly swampy in part. One can see, therefore also, in abundance the poplars, the aspens, the willows... (populus, salix...)

    Houses in wood

    Houses in wood

I already saw some houses in wood at the past of my travels (Mauritius, Moors...). I like them and I appreciate their beauty, their charm, the heat that clears itself of it.
But I must confess that these houses of Siberia are of real works of art. The woodworking shows the whole to know how to make Siberian carpenters !
Admire the sharpness and the luxurience of the decorations!

    Siberians Houses in wood

Some people begin to be interested in this heritage, and the few houses that subsist are the object of more particular attentions.
The first time that I was interested in these houses, the Siberian were astonished that a French attaches the importance in these shacks!

Ols house in wood just between two buildings

In some streets, one can see old traditional houses again, in wood, that resisted the urbanization, to the stalinisation, and to all devastations to which most houses succumbed.

The monument to the deaths of World War II

    by Klod5 Written Nov 1, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Cadets

The cadets keep the watch, permanently, around the monument to the deaths of World War II.
One can attend the relief of the guard, and to take some photos (I recall that to take photos of soldiers, or of militiamen is forbidden rigorously, except in some cases).

Monument for death of WW II

The monument to the deaths of World War II is very impressive !
    Imagine :
Four big walls of several meter high carry name of the men of Novosibirsk that never came back of the fights. And these names are there, by thousand to recall us the murderous hecatomb that this war to provoked in this country.

    Hystory end

    Traditional's Siberian

Favorite thing: The territory of Novosibirsk extended more and more, and the population of the town was rising. In the early 60-s the population of Novosibirsk reached one million. In the subsequent years new architectural sites were created in the town - scientist centers of Academy of Medicine and Academy of Agriculture.

Fondest memory: The construction of subway was started in Novosibirsk in 1979. The first line was opened in 1985. So the 90-s years have started, and that was a turning point for the whole country. But in spite of economical crisis, Novosibirsk goes on its developing. Commercial banks, markets, exchanges and private companies have appeared again in the town. Now the future of Novosibirsk is closely bound up with a new social economical system of all the country.

    History 5

    by Klod5 Written Oct 31, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Old house in wood

Favorite thing: Nature environment of the town was changing also because of industrial
development. In the middle of 50-s a hydro power station for 400 kilowatts was erected near Novosibirsk, that caused the creation of a new great water reservoir - the Ob Sea. Unfortunately, that power station didn't solve all the problems of power supply; instead of it, it caused new others. Vast fertile fields were flooded; relic pine woods were founded under water; because of new wide plain water space the wind speed rose half as much again causing higher soil eroding.

Fondest memory: In 1957 the building of a large science center was started on the bank of the Ob Sea; it was the Siberian Branch of Science Academy of the USSR, so called Academgorodok. That new part of the town included 14 research institutes, an university, dwelling and public buildings also, a department store and a Scientists House.
