Khanty and Mansi are the native peoples who live in the north of West Siberia. There is also a nationality called 'nentsy', but it belongs more to the eastern part. They still live as 1000 years ago: use tents (Yurts) as houses, support their living by reindeer herding, berries gathering, hunting, fishing and similar occupations. The influence of Russians is felt: they speak Russian, and some build wooden houses. The population of them is not large: for instance, Mansi in 1989 were around 8500. They speak languages that belong to Finno-Ugric linguistic group. Their national culture got, to certain extent, assimilated by Russian influence, however, nowadays there's a tendency of restoring and keeping up their traditions, language, etc. Their literature is based on Russian alphabet (before the revolution it was Latin).

Autumn in Akademgorodok

Since the month of September it is the fall, a colorful and brief fall. With superb days, even hot in sunny, but, already, the temperatures are in the evening, cool, especially if the wind of the north is precocious. A fire of artifice to finish the short summer... in some weeks snow is going to come back, beginning November it will already have begun to all to cover, and the Siberian will be happy.

Siberian apple

There are a lot of apple trees, more or less neglected. The Siberian varieties produce numerous small apples, to the hard flesh and to the acidic taste. I didn't see anybody practicing the thinning. I don't know if they are small because too numerous, or if it doesn't enlarge, even though there is some little.

Off the beaten path is visiting somebody's (or mine)dacha. During the summer, as almost all the Russian people, I spent all the fre time in there. Dacha – summer cottages outside the city, where we cultivate vegetables, berries, green. It is a special thing – to breath the fresh air, to make a fire when gets dark (here - at 11 p.m. during the summer), to cook the rustic food on fire, to sleep in wooden-houses…Great!
