New York Pizza: NYP the american Pizzas in Siberia

    by Klod5 Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    NYP in Akademgorodock

The restaurant is part of a chain. All restaurants of this sign are in Novosibirsk or Akademgorodock and belong to an American emigrant, who came here, with his wife, original of Novosibirsk. In 15 year, he constructed himself a real empire.

Favorite Dish: Les Pizzas sont bonnes, mais un peu chères pour les russes. Ce sont surtout les "nouveaux riches" qui viennent ici.
En Russie, les Pizzas sont vendues en parts.

The Pizzas are good, but a few dear for the Russian. These are especially the "new rich" that come here.
In Russia, the Pizzas are sold in parts.

Il Patio: Not a typical chain restaurant

by Nuclei Written Dec 1, 2009
    Il Patio in Novosibirsk
    1 more image

In Russia or in CIS countries, Il Patio is a chain of Italian restaurants. However, the quality you get from Il Patio is much higher than any average chain restaurant. I have been to some Il Patio's here and there and the one in Novosibirsk was the far best one, in terms of service and ambience. Staff speak English and free Wi Fi available.

    Favorite Dish: Pizza, of course.

    Mexico Cafe: Hot Spice

by Nuclei Written Dec 1, 2009

Even it is named as a cafe, it is not, it is typical Mexican restaurant. Nicely decorated with some Mexican style garnish. Some staff speak English. Reservation may be needed during weekends.

Favorite Dish: I tried fajitas and mushroom soup. Fajitas was average but I liked the soup.

    Kouzina: Good self service

    by filip007 Written Dec 26, 2007

A modern self-service restaurant situated not very far from the center of the town. Pleasant atmosphere, modern setting and good food. At least as good as one can expect from a self-service restaurant.

Favorite Dish: If russian cuisine, I cannot end a meal without blini - so Blini with honey and nuts - a bestseller... (I sometimes wonder if the bear symbol has something to do with the quantity of honey consumed by russians)

    Tinkoff Brewery: Great Beer!

    by KJ31 Written Sep 26, 2007

This is your typical brewery style restaurant with small tables, long bar, and many televisions. There was a band playing on Friday night but the band quit early at 22:00 (10pm).

Favorite Dish: For dinner I had a beef shish-kabob with vegetables and a salad. The food was good but the beer was excellent! If you go to this restaurant, you have to enjoy a beer!

Pub 501: American Old West Pub?

    by KJ31 Updated Sep 26, 2007

The restaurant is actually located in the basement of the building which gives it the pub feeling. The theme of the restaurant is the "American Old West", however, the food is very Russian in flavor. If you’re craving a Guinness Beer, this is the place to go.

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed 2 delicious meals at this restaurant. First dish was lamb shish-kabob that was similar to a meatloaf. The second dish was called "Alex Yo" which was a shreaded steak with fried potatoes. I recommend both.

Excellent modest restaurant close to the railway station. The owner (he is my good friend), Tokhtaali Ablakhatovich, is from Kashgar, Sinkiang, China, and also speaks Chinese. The food is from Central Asia, very cheap and good quality. Mante and plov are the specialities.

    Favorite Dish: Plov and shashlikis

Stolovaya Vilka Lojka: cheap, good and centrical located restaurant

by jorgejuansanchez Updated Jan 29, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is very cheap, self service, but good food. Many students. They serve borsh, blinis with smetana, fish with cheese, solianka, Chicken by Kiev style, pelmenie from Siberia, many pirashkis, georgian khachapuri, itd, etc. It is located in front of the Opera and Ballet. Very convenient if you have a ticket to watch Giselle or Sevilla barber.

Favorite Dish: all in general. Every time I went there I changed the dishes to taste them all. For the first time try pelmenie and blinis.

Roads and bogs of West Siberia

    by Anya_D Updated Feb 12, 2005

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Most of North-West Siberian territory is covered with taiga and bogs. Because of the bogs it is very hard to construct roads, which are essential for the development of the region. Besides roads, it is also necessary to build oil and gas pipelines. So you can imagine what most of the roads look like. There was an uncompleted road near my house in Nizhnevartovsk: it sank in the swamp 100 meters behind the house. I do not know if that one came back to the surface. But when driving in the oil field from one pad to another I saw roads diving and turning up in 30-50 meters. And you never know how deep the gap is… Scary driving experience for a newcomer!
Intercity roads are fairly good, though. However, some roads can be used only in winter (so called 'zimniki'), for instance, the short road from Nizhnevartovsk to Noyabrsk.
