Don't get in a cab waiting at a taxi stand. Call the central number and let the taxi come to you (hotel, restaurant). You will pay less if you do this. The average price for a trip within the city is 50 rubles (less then 2 dollars). In the evening you will pay about 70 to 80 rubles (2.5 to 3 dollars).
Try the public transportation! A (trolley) bus costs only 5 rubles (0.15 dollars) and takes you anywhere for this amount. A minibus is a "little bit" better and costs only 7 rubles (0.25 dollars). You only have to pay this amount once so it does not matter if you travel 100 meters or 5 km.
