Some of the streets around the apartment complexes had not seen any improvements or repairs since they were built! Watch your tongue and teeth!! some of those lumps, bumps and wumps can be VERY bone jaring! Amazingly enough when and where the roads where half way decent you had to watch for speed bumps!! Russians with with their own cars sometimes "celebrate" their new found freedom by being unbelievable selfish, arrogant and "pig headed". If Rusians would be as nice and as respectful of each other on the roadways as they are on the railways, modern Russia would be MUCH more pleasent and safe place to travel!!! Leave a Comment

I just thought about this recently..... In Russia most people there don't drink the water from the faucet (tap). Because there may be different bacteria in the water than in your country, it is advised to use ONLY bottled water for drinking AND brushing your teeth. There are many brands of bottled water in Omsk. The bottle water there comes with or without carbonation (bubbles) as well as with or without salt (sodium). Leave a Comment

Walking in the city center at night is relatively safe. Avoid walking alone in one of the suburbs. Most lights along the street don't work so you will be walking in pitch black and have the risk of breaking your legs over a piece of wood. The risk of being robbed obviously increases when you walk somewhere alone in the dark. Better take a cheap taxi. Leave a Comment

During my trip, I met others who had been to Omsk several times. One Scottsman I met, who worked as a consultant, had been to Omsk 5 times (at that time). He had been robbed by a taxi driver. I suggest taking ONLY official taxis. His story was that he had a company driver but the driver hadn't arrived. So, he decided to take a taxi. He took the first "taxi" he had seen. The driver had taken him into the woods (forest) and demanded $300 from him or he would be beaten. NOTE: During my trip I never encountered anything such as that. Omsk is like any other city, so it is best to be cautious. Leave a Comment

Several "night life tips here address local "strip clubs" and the fact that perhaps one (or more) of them allows you to "touch" the ladies. MAKE sure you know JUST what the "house rules" are before you find yourself with your arm(s) twisted behind your back as you make a fast trip out the side door and pick your face and teeth out of the mud, dirt or snow!!! If you don't know the "language" of the "rules" be even MORE careful!! Believe me there are NO pictures to go with this one!! This could also be called a "tourist trap"!! Money seems to solve what appear to be or are presented as problems here MUCH more often than it should! (Can you say "Rip Off"??) A "bird in the bush" may be MUCH safer than a hand in the "Birds" bush
