The theater at 89 Moscow Street was dedicated in 1916 and has been a theater ever since. It was named after Emperor Alexander the Second.
They say the history of the Penza theater dates back to November 24, 1793 when the first nighty of the performance “The Deceiver” (the play of empress Catherine II) took place in Penza.
In January 2008 the residents of Penza were shocked by the news about the fire in the building of the regional drama theater. The old building had to be demolished a new theater building was erected. The architectural style of the present theater is late classicism with considerable influence of the Russian modernist style. Natural red Karelian granite adorns the facade, the elements of a decor were made of fibreglass, the interior furniture was embellished by crystal and marble, and the doors were decorated with a unique carving.

The Folk Arts Museum
January, 7, 1975 is the date of dedication of this museum.
The subjects, genres, and styles are very diverse here, but one thing is surely common here uniting all the exhibits: the creative activities based on high aesthetic taste, the aspiration to create under the laws of beauty to share this beauty with the the contemporaries.
This beauty is embodied into clay, canvas, straw, copper, wood, etc.

The Ulianovs
Lenin’s father Ilya Ulyanov met his future wife in Penza and there is even a sculptural group devoted to that event!
The sculptural composition of their historical meeting is located near Ilya Ulianov’s Museum that occupies the building of the former Nobility institute.
Now I don’t even know whether I should be proud of it or not.
Probably if they hadn’t met in my town, the October Revolution would not have take place in Russia…

The museum of one picture was dedicated on February, 12, 1983 as a branch of the picture gallery. The pictures exhibited in it were given by the best museums of Russia: the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Russian Museum and the Hermitage in St.Petersburg and others.
They present the material to visitors in a very special way by means of slides that represent the creativity of Russian artists and the process of creation of pictures.

Tarhany Museum
Close to Penza located very famouse museum - Tarhany.
The sacred ground which has grown Michael Jur'evicha Lermontova, hospitably accepts everyone who has come to appreciate love and respect to the great poet., that one of visitors of a museum writes: " it Is pleasant , that in Russia is silent corner, where the native Land carefully as the nestling in palms, is protected with eternal dream of tsarevitch of Russian poetry and a jack in which he has grown.. Locals drink only spring water and there are several springs there, so you can hike for spring waters and on the way to see a pond with local bird that fly away soon to warmer lands. There are a lot of homeless dogs and cats. People are very nice there.
