Very interesting "piece of history" in rather modern town. Definately it is a must see activity.Kremlin walls are rather high from outside and relatively small from inside. That is because in times of Peter the Great Kremlin was earthed, just to make this ancient (before guns) fortress firm against modern (for that times) weapons. What you can see...more
There are several banya's in Pskov, but the best one must be the one which is beside the Pskov river. It is very small, so you might have to go there to reserve. I don't know the exact adress, but the best way to get there is to start at Ploshad Lenina, then walk to the market behind the pskov pedagogical institute, then take the stairs down to the...more
As far as Pehiory is a monastery that still is a place where monks live and not just a touristic object, you must obbey some rules. It is allowed to film or take pictures everywhere in the teritory of the monastery, except in the church and you can not take pictures of the monks.Another important thing is about clothing. It is simple with men- no...more

This is a restaurant, bar and club. It has very long opening hours, so you just might want to hop in for a cold beer, breakfast or a dinner or a hot coffee. The kitchen does not look too clean, but that is ther same in all of Russia. Try the nice healthy salads with other zakuski.more
By me and my friends lovingly reffered to as "the pizza place", is cheap! It's a kind of buffet, you'll have a problem if you don't speak russian. So this restaurant is good for you if you can read a little bit of russian. They have nice salads, soups, pizza's and some other dishes. The desserts are also sweet! The service is Russian, if you know...more
This the most expensive restaurant in town. It also has a good reputation. There's a club a bar and a restaurant. But if you ask me... The service is rather bad and inside it's dark. The food is okay, but I prefer other restaurants in town. But stil it has a very nice location. It is located in the old walls of the Kremlin and has a nice view over...more
This restaurant is really nice. The food is very good and there is often live music, the band even sometimes plays european music! Sometimes there are receptions such as a wedding party, but other guests are allowed inside, just enjoy how russians celebrate life! Leave you coat at the clerk and go in. What a paradise! I don't have a favourite...more
TIR club is a very nice club. They're open thursday, friday and saturday, sometimes on other days. Their opening hours are from 18 hrs to 1. When there's a band playing you might have to pay entrance, which may vary between 50 and 300 rubles. You can check the programme on the streets, there are many posters around in the streets. The live bands are...more

Well, as the rest of Russia all the busses are either from Swedish, french, german etc. origin. So they are rather old, but still working. On the outside you may find the direction where the bus is heading... if you're lucky. Well, just hop in and see where you will end. You pay 6 roubles when the lady asks you "prajesd".more
This is a typical Russian market. When I went there and I bought to much... I would take a taxi home! You can buy on the ground floor practically everything: cheese, meat, fish, vegetables, sweets, cookies, pasta and other things. Even in winter you can find fresh vegetables and fruits. In winter we bought so many oranges! On the second floor you...more
When you are visiting Izborsk fortress ( just some 20km from Pskov) follow the arrows behind the walls that tell "Slavenske Kliutchi". One of the guides said that there are 12 springs coming from the stone and another that there are 7 springs. Both can be true. Because it depends how you are counting. Most of springs are joining into one main waterfall.
But is not only the beauty that attracts people to the place. It is a place were you can make your most secret wish. Springs have names "Health", "Beauty", "Long life", etc.
You have to take some water in your palms, make a wish and swallow 3 gulps, then spill the remains of water on the ground. The procedure should help to make your wish come true.
Personal comment: I am not sure if my wish comes true- it was made on longer terms....But my friend that day suffered a bad attack of migrene. She said the "Health" spring worked.....
Pskov is also one of the oldest towns in noth-west Russia situating in the crossig of 2 rives where you can see old fortification - but not entirely old as in the Soviet time it was recunstructed having no idea how the fortification might look like in the past :-). Still it's worth to see...
Go to Sokolya (Falcon) Hill to see the monument/memorial to the prince Alexander Nevsky, who is honored in these parts mostly for his victory over the Teutonic Knights at Chudskoye Lake in 1242. The impressive sculpture group was unveiled on June 24th 1993, when Pskov was celebrating its 1090th anniversary. The monument, on Sokolya hill, just...more
There's a very nice but expensive (for Russian standards) in the SUPER-complex. It costs 40 euro's a month, but i think the facilities are worth it. There are aerobics classes and a gym. There's a sauna and it is very clean and that's worth the money.
Equipment: err shoes and sport clothes. And a big bag of money!
I used the one with ADSL connection in the telephone/telegraph office on Oktyabrskaya prospekt 17.When you go in you have to state how long you want to use it for (they don't speak English), then you get a piece of paper with which you go into the main hall to counter 3, 4 or 5 and pay and then you bring the stamped paper back and choose a computer...more
Kremlin is a small piece of history that remains in Pskov after WWII. In 1943 downtown of Pskov was bombed to smoulder by SOVIET (!?) army. It was Stalin's punishment for surrender in 1941. He was very cruel person. Pskov was the ONLY Russian city that surrendered without a battle in 1941 and for the first time in a history of Pskov. And for that...more
