    Yekaterinburg in the middle of...

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Yekaterinburg in the middle of Winter has extra obstacles to look out for. Clearing the sidewalks of snow is a hopeless task. :-) So much snow and so little equipment. So add some padding for the unexpected landing when you fall, cause your gonna fall. :-) Oh and your coat maybe warmer than someone elses, so watch for the large ice cicles that fall on your had when your not looking. You could wake up without the LL Bean winter barrier coat.

  • Dangerous after 22h?

    by histamin32 Updated Jul 30, 2006

Locals have warned us that after 22h00 groups of young men may assault foreigners, especially outside of the centre of town. Whether this is true or not, we cannot tell, but we have heard this independently from several sources. We ourselves always felt safe and there was no unpleasant event whatsoever.

It is recommended to stay home after 10pm.

by jfkfamily Written Dec 29, 2003

First reason is that public transport stops at this time approximately, so just people who plan to stay out all night or people with cars stay on the streets. Mostly they are drunk.
Second reason is that everything is closed, excluding very expensive places. So nothing interesting could be going on.
Third reason that police sleeps at this time, and cars drive like crazy. The chance of being robbed even in the center goes up to 95%.

    pickpockets

by grye Written Sep 13, 2004

This city is a den of thieves when it comes to foreigners getting ripped off, & I hear Moscow is worse.

I had someone trying to pick my pockets 5 times, the 5th being successful (they got my wallet).

    Have fun with that....

If you are a girl, do not stay too long there.

by jfkfamily Written Aug 11, 2003

If you go to plotinka from Lenina street, do not spend too much time on the bridge admiring the weir view.

I didn't know it myself, after 20 years that I lived there, that this place is for prostitutes. See a lot of beautiful girls around? They are waiting for clients. So get out of there before a man from some Mercedes asks your price. They get really nervous if you are not for sale though, so do not explain anything. Just get out of there as soon as you saw that view.

It is not the same for the other side of the bridge, which has a good view to the Lake and the Casino. Cars cannot park there, so enjoy it as long as you like.
