Tomsk is not somewhere I would have expected to find an English theme pub, but there it was. Inside the decor is like a traditional English pub (dark wood, engravings of English castles on the walls), but the menu is not exactly authentic. No sign of the traditional ploughman's lunch, or roast beef, or even the more modern ubiquitous Thai green curry or chilli con carne. Many of the dishes seemed to have been inspired by Robin Hood, and came with 'Sherwood Forest mushrooms'. I was particularly intrigued by 'English Channel Salad' (smoked eel, radishes, cabbage and chips', but went for soup in the end.

There are several take-away blini (pancake) outlets in Tomsk. We liked the one in Troitsky Skver, as you can sit in the park to eat it. You simply choose your filling. A blini with cheese cost 45 roubles (about £1), one with minced meat cost 75 roubles.

I didn't really expect to find a good Italian restaurant in Tomsk, but Parmesan, the restaurant of the Magistrat Hotel, is actually very good. Most of the food is Italian (lots of pasta dishes and pizza, including a dessert pizza with strawberries, as well as meat and fish mains) but there is also a section of Siberian specialities.
Normally, I tend to avoid hotel restaurants, but we tried this one on our first night in Tomsk, and it was so good that we had dinner there for the rest of our stay. We ate there three times, and there was only one dish we chose from the extensive menu that turned out not to be available.
It's not cheap (a three course meal without wine costs the equivalent of £30 per head), but it is worth it.
Favorite Dish: Black ravioli stuffed with sea perch was excellent, as was seafood soup and rabbit cutlet. For dessert, I can recommend the strawberry tiramisu (?!) and the hot ice-cream with cherry sauce.

Best thing about "Vechnyi Zov" is of course the food. You will find local meats like bear meatloaf with cranberry, marabu steak, fish and fowl. Some dishes are pretty rare. Service is first-class, live music. I try to go there every visit.
Favorite Dish: Seafood coctail

This cafe is in a rather nice art nouveau-style building on Pr. Lenina. You can get lunch here, but we popped in for coffee and then couldn't resist the cakes on display.
Favorite Dish: Strawberry gateau ....mmmmm.
