The 18th century monastery sits ride by the Vladimir-Nizhni Novgorod road in the middle of the village. It contains the only rests of the palace built by Andrei Bogolyubsky on this spot, a tower and an arch.
On the plains by the Nerl river lies this beautiful little church. It was built by Andrei Bogolyubsky in the second half of 12th century in the memory of his son Izyaslav, killed in a battle with Bulgars.
Perfect location, great proportions, simplicity and beauty... my favourite visit of all Russia.
The easiest way is to go there with your own car - Bogolyubovo is directly on the main road Vladimir to Nizhni Novgorod, about 11km from Vladimir.
Otherwise a marshrutka from Vladimir, a taxi or a local train (there is a train station directly in Bogolyubovo).
