Nikolskyi Monastery stands on the highest place of Gorokhovets - on Puzhalova Gora (which means a mountain where someone was frightened of someone who was located on this mountain).
Just on this place in XIII cent. was the fortress - the starting point of Gorokhovets - which was burnt by Mongol army.
Nickolskyi Monastery was founded much later - in XVI cent. Most of it was built by rich Gorokhovets's merchants.
Now it's a male monastery, many of it's buildings are under reconstruction.
Steep path to Monastery is worth going up - the view from the Monastery is one of the best.

Wooden houses in modernist style, which was very popular among Russian rich people in the beginning of XX cent., are often in Gorokhovets streets.
You can also see typical provincial houses of XIX-XX cent.

Gorokhovets could be a museum of Russian dwelling houses since XVI cent.
A quarter of stone town houses of XVI-XVII cent. is unique – may be the only in Russia.
One of this houses is a museum, the others - local public institutions (for ex. - Palace of weddings).

The cafe isn't 'fast food' at all (at least in summer). It's a normal restaurant with nice meals, not very fast service and usual average figures in the bill. We liked it a lot, primarily because it was the best solution of 'food supply problem' - cafes and restaurants in small town are not common. On our first day in Gorokhovets we had dinner only due to kindness of our hotel's personnel (who asked to feed us the local cafe which usually workes only for banquets ). So when we discovered this Fast Food cafe we were happy and had our meals only here.
Open: 11-midnight
Favorite Dish: Andrey and Aleksey liked pelmeni (and I'm not sure that they tried anything else). I usually ate shrimps or fish - and I liked everything.

In town we usually went on foot. But there are local bus lines (which we haven't used) and lots of taxi.

Gorokhovets is located just on Road M7 'Volga' which goes from Moscow to Nizhnyi Novgorod (through Vladimir). One can go there by bus Moscow-Nizhnyi Novgorod (they always stop in Gorokhovets), but it takes a lot of time (about 6 hours). We went there by car, and it was the best way to go there.
The road after Vladimir is quite picturesque.

'Puzhalova Gora' is developing primarily for winter sports, but they also offer different summer sports and entertainments. The male part of our family liked mountain biking (rental service is available) and rodelban (rail sleigh sliding along the hill).
