Mead Hall (Medavukha): local flavor - literally

by Juhlemann Updated Jun 25, 2007

This place has an elaborate interior in old Russian revival style. Although they have excellent honey blinis, you really go there to drink the mead, which is much better than the bottled stuff they sell on the street. For a few buck they give you a tasting tray of 10 different kinds of mead, some quite spiced.

    various: Stallholders Suzdal

by Intrepidduck Updated Jan 5, 2006
    Cucumbers in brine

When a babushka holds up a tin bucket with sloshing content at a tourist market there must be something interesting in store. Indeed and to my surprise was the refreshing and nutritious peasant food on offer for a few rubles.

Favorite Dish: Cucumbers in brine. Russia is home still to such wholistic delights.

    Unknown Bar: Honey Mead

by Intrepidduck Written Jan 5, 2006
    Interior murals

A most unusual establishment found right in the centre of Suzdal was a modest up market tavern which sold various local herbal wines and ales - including a refreshing honey mead. It is a bit of a torist trap where the bar maid can be photographed in traditional folk dress for a fee, but other than this the atmosphere of the place is pleasant and the product excellent.

    Favorite Dish: The honey beer

Trapeznaya (in Preobrazhensky convent): Another one Refectory

    by Pablos_new Written Sep 20, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It appeared to be two restaurants with the same name - Trapeznaya - in Suzdal. One rather well-known in the center of the town and other in a Preobrazhensky convent.

    It could be confusing.

Favorite Dish: Next time I will go in to make a comparative analisys (LOL!!!)

  • local disco / bar / club /: great fun

by novw Written Sep 18, 2003

We were in Suzdal during off season so most restaurants were closed. By chance we stumbled upon this thing:

If you walk from the north kremlin to the south along the main road, before you pass the market place (!) there is a old church tower, currently being used for mobile phone antennas. In the street to the left is a discotheque. At least it looks like that. Staff is unfriendly (who isn't in russia ?), but they serve good food at extreme low proces... 18 people ate here for 4000 rubles ($120) !

Favorite Dish: we all ordered beegsteak because that was the only word the waiter recognized from our litle russioan translation book.

Archibishops Refectory (Trapeznaya): Glattory is a Sin!

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Excellent food, brilliant restaurant!
    My favourite in Suzdal'.

Only traditional natural products - nothing to do for those who look for "low fat, cholesterol free" labels ;-) LOL!

Favorite Dish: Archibishops salad, Rasstyegay, Vladimirskaya nastoyka and of course - Medovuha (Mead).
