Suzdal' Restaurants

  • In the Kremlin

It is located in a room of the refectory of Suzdal's Kremlin. This restaurant features a traditional Russian menu of bliny (pancakes) with caviar, priced much lower than in Moscow. Try their marinated forest mushrooms - they are beautiful and tasty, whether eaten plain or alongside a serving of cold vodka.

This place has an elaborate interior in old Russian revival style. Although they have excellent honey blinis, you really go there to drink the mead, which is much better than the bottled stuff they sell on the street. For a few buck they give you a tasting tray of 10 different kinds of mead, some quite spiced.

Suzdal' Transportation

  • how to get to Suzdal

Unfortunately there is no direct trainline to Suzdal, so an organized bustour seems to be the best solution. I came to Suzdal from Ples, about 100 km north of Suzdal and the drivingtime to Suzdal was about 3 hours one way. That tour was organized by our cruiseship M/S Furmanov on her way from Perm to Moscow. The fullday-tour was 65 euros including...

It's not hard at all to get a cab in Vladimir to Suzdal'. And it's not expensive. Yet, we picked a real crazy driver, the road was more like a rollercoaster for him, and he enjoyed trying a few stunts. The ride took less than half an hour. I couldn't believe we were alive when we arrived to Suzdal'...It's harder to get a cab back in Suzdal', you...

Suzdal' Local Customs

There is not a lot left over of the medieval Kremlin of Suzdal, but when walking over the bridge of the river Kamenka you will still see a part of the artificial wall that was made of soil, heaped up in the 10th century and on top of that natural wall used to be a wooden fence. Suzdal' Warnings and Dangers

  • the "bus station" is an abandonned wreck

They built an elaborate bus station out of town, but it has been abandonned and is a bit of a walk into town. The Yaroslavl bus still drops you off there, though. Tourists who are moving on from Suzdal have been recommended to take a cab to Vladimir, which is 37 km away and has rail and bus connections.

But after he understand that we are not going to entertain him, he turned around and was ready to kick. He became very aggressive, so, I even was forced to run away.

Suzdal' Favorites

  • Riding a sledge

Riding a sledge is the best way to move around Suzdal', especially in winter. The streets here are too calm and 'ancient' for driving a car but in winter often too slippery and hilly for walking.
