Motherland vs Liberty by Pablos_new Atre, thank you for an interesting question in comments. It pushes me to a small investigation. Statue of Motherland is nearly the same as Liberty, as you can see in figures: Height with basement : Liberty is 93 m; Motherland is 89 m. But figure of woman is a little bit bigger: Liberty is 46,5 m with a torch, Motherland - 52 m w/o a sword. Weight: Liberty - 225 tons (copper - 100 tons, steel - 125 tons), Motherland - 7900 tons (concrete - 5500 tons, steel - 2400 tons). I've tryed to scale pix to the same scale to compare. Another piece of Soviet monumentalism by Pablos_new At the south end of the city (city lasts over 50 km along river side), where Volga-Don Channel System starts there is another great monument of Volgograd. It is less known for tourists though it is worth to see. Only thoses who have a river cruise Volgograd - Astrakhan' or Volgograd - Rostov-on-Don could see it in all its greatness. This is Giant Lenin!!! He looks at Volga river and shows the right direction to the communism ;))) Leave a Comment
