    Motherland vs Liberty

Atre, thank you for an interesting question in comments. It pushes me to a small investigation.

Statue of Motherland is nearly the same as Liberty, as you can see in figures:

Height with basement : Liberty is 93 m; Motherland is 89 m. But figure of woman is a little bit bigger: Liberty is 46,5 m with a torch, Motherland - 52 m w/o a sword.

    Weight: Liberty - 225 tons (copper - 100 tons, steel - 125 tons), Motherland - 7900 tons (concrete - 5500 tons, steel - 2400 tons).

I've tryed to scale pix to the same scale to compare.

    Another piece of Soviet monumentalism

At the south end of the city (city lasts over 50 km along river side), where Volga-Don Channel System starts there is another great monument of Volgograd. It is less known for tourists though it is worth to see. Only thoses who have a river cruise Volgograd - Astrakhan' or Volgograd - Rostov-on-Don could see it in all its greatness. This is Giant Lenin!!! He looks at Volga river and shows the right direction to the communism ;)))
