We went to visit the litlle museum on the premises depicting what the Russian homes lookes like inside in the country side. It was a very interesting tour, with the stove burning and the lady was busy making soup (for the monks), the lovely old furniture that is handmade in the village, the dolls the children were playing with and so many other things. Really brings you back to reality to see this.
Do yourself a favour and go outside the monestery to the lake side. It is a wonderfull view and you can see some homes closeby. A real treat with the old and new next to one another living in harmony.
Ivan the Great's son Vasily 111 sponsored the construction of these two cathedrals - The Archangel Gabriel Cathedral and the church of St John the Precusor. These are still working churches and we were lucky to witness mass in one of them, not sure which one it was
