Lace-making in Vologda dates back to at least the 17th century. By the early 19th century, lace making in Vologda and the surrounding area had become an important trade.

I stumbled across this beautiful painting by an artist named Isaac Levitan done sometime in the 19th centry. The painting is called "Evening Bells." I can't see it being anywhere other than Vologda, the identicle onion domes are what give it away for me. I love the sky, it brings me right back.
