We were in Vologda in time of world's football championship.
So, we cannot miss visiting bar in a hotel Spasskaya with large TV on the wall.
BTW there were no TV set in the room!
Favorite Dish: Very good food. Everything is delicious!

Full name of the place is "Kitchen of Ivan Ivanovich , head of transport department" (Kukhnya Ivana Ivanovicha, nachalnika transportnogo tsekha).
I guess it is the best place in the town. Original atmosphere - decorated as common kitchen of 1970's. Very funny menu, designed as a newspaper. And many other pretty details.
Favorite Dish: Almost everything is very good.
The most remarkable was chef-salad.

The hot dish was being prepared there for 30-40 minutes but it's worth to do so! You'll enjoy every stick you have put in your mouth! All the dishes are prepared from fresh foodstaffs and there is delicate individual approach! I liked everything except some waitresses. Maybe they didn't like only me but... I think that for the money which we leave in their restaurant, they could be a little more polite... As well, if you stay in the Spasskiy hotel you'll enjoy breakfasts which they offer from 8:30a.m. till 10:30a.m.. It's said to be one of the best breakfast of smorgasbord in Russia. During the breakfasts I regreted that I don't eat much in the morning... There is Business-lunch as well 12:30a.m.-3.00p.m., but I didn't taste it because I was at work. So, if you taste it I'll be waiting for your comments!
Favorite Dish: I liked pigeon-chest with crabs. It's served with cranberry souse, it makes this dish very original!

The Spasskaya restaurant inside the hotel of the same name was excellent. Good service, and good food. Cheap Moldovan wine of good quality as well. If I ever go back to Vologda, I would definitely go there again.

To be honest I wasn't impressed by what I tried in restaurants. There is one that I arrived at a few times (serving gypsy fare) but it was always full. Maybe you will have better luck, as the fact that it was always full may say something. I will look up the adress, and post in in a little while.
Favorite Dish: The main food market will have all your needs, and is a very interesting strole. Vologda butter has no rivals. It has a slightly nutty taste. There is little variety in produce in this part of the world, but what is available is of exceptional quality.

The restaurant is located in a cellar of a multistoreyed building some 5 bus stops from the centre. It is neatly arranged not to shock the local-accustomed public with too wild Mexican traditions, in food as in design. The colours are very quiet, mainly beige and sandy. The chair-backs are designed with an allusion to the cactus, the form repeats in other attributes too. The inscription on one of the walls is slightly wrong.
Coming to the food, it is skilfully adjusted to the local taste - no too sharp sauces. But at the same time, NO TORTILLAS, NO NACHOS, NO BEANS. It seems, the dishes come semi-finished already and wil only be warmed up for the customer.
I would recommend you to visit this restaurant only if you take life on the whole ironically. ;-)
