San MArino from San Leo by Enzyme_X After visiting San Marino and seeing it from inside, you can drive to one of the many hills nearby to get the whole picture of San Marino. The best views are from the western side, as on the eastren you'll see only cliffs. This picture was taken from a fortress in the town of San Leo. Leave a Comment

by Willettsworld Rimini has an aviation museum which is on the way to San Marino. It covers an area of 80,000 square metres and is the biggest of its kind in Italy. There are around 30 aircraft on display, mostly from Russia, former eastern block countries and the Italian air force but there are also a few from the USAF and Clark Gable's Douglas DC-3. There is also a modern pavilion which houses a great collection of uniforms, medals and other memorabilia. If you're an airplane buff then this is the place for you! Directions: The Aviation Museum Park is situated by the main Rimini-San Marino road at km 8.5. Arriving from San Marino, the park is about 1 km after the frontier. Arriving from the A-14 motorway, the park is about 8.5 km in the direction of San Marino, and can be seen on a hill to the right. Open everyday from 9am-7pm. Admission is € 8,00 for adults, € 6,50 for kids. Leave a Comment

Generally, anything outside of San Marino's capital - also called San Marino - is off the beaten path. Within the city, the Museum of Immigration is well worth a visit. Creatively put together, the very friendly staff can tell you all you ever wanted to know about San Marino's widespread but little know diaspora. Oddly, this small hidden treasure is not as well signposted as San Marino city's other sights. Beyond the city, some of the other town's of the Republic deserve a visit for their quaint town squares, old traditional homes, charming bars and restaurants, and in one or two cases, their small museums and 'castles.' Definitely worth visiting are the towns of Serravalle, Monte Giardino, Borgo Maggiore - which can be visited by cable car from the capital - and Domagnano. Note that some of these towns are just off the Republic's 'neon mile,' but just be persistent and adventerous enough to stray off the beaten path. To be certain, none of these towns really cater to tourists, whom the natives are happy to send to the capital, but they are still quite charming. Leave a Comment

ROADS AND BUILDINGS WITH THEIR ROOTS IN STONE: SAN MARINO AND ITS SURROUNDINGS A strange land this, so different from the surrounding countryside. To some extent it resembles an island or, even better, a great SHIP run aground on a rock. What an impression it must havemade on the many potentaes and pilgrims who fell under its striking and savage charm. The same identical impression which the disenchanted travellers of today have on discovering a City-State that has florished on a mountain which seemed barren and inhospitable. Along steeply roads, past a harmonious blend of MODERN and ancient, among mighty balltelments and austere buildings, the scenery is forever changing as the curious visitor winds his way up to the imposing and majestic fortresses which stand like turrets of an imaginary sailing ship on the waves of an immense sea of sky. Here, when the sun casts its glare on the contrasting shapes of ancient and austere buildings or when the moon enhances the mysteries, which transude from behind fastened shutters, it becomes difficult to distinguish between reality and illusion, between things ephemeral and things concrete. And here perhaps, lies the attraction of San MARINO. In these surroundings capable of involving both the HEART and the MIND, the BODY and the BRAIN. A TOTAL EMOTION, JUST LIKE LIFE! Leave a Comment

San Leo by vysnaite It's a town quite close to San Marino, if you're already there, don't miss it. San Leo is famous as a town of art and generally it's a lovely and refreshing place in the mountains, with medieval town construction and fortress above the city. Leave a Comment
