The Fellini Airport Rimini-San Marino is 27km from the Republic; and you can either take a taxi which costs about 50€ to San Marino, or travel to the train station and get a bus. The schedules between both locations are very limited each day.

An easy way to get to San Marino is by bus from Rimini, a popular tourist city. The buses to San Marino leave in front of the railway station. You can buy tickets from the lady standing in the bus stop. The journey to from Rimini to San Marino lasts about 50 minutes and takes you easily to San Marino.

San Marino is NOT on the Italian Trenitalia system. Instead, you have to go to a nearby city like Rimini, and take a bus.

Use motorway A14 Bologna-Ancona and then Dual carrieageway Rimini-San Marino from the A 14 Rimini Sud exit when entering by car.

Travelling by its fast cableway, San Marino can be reached from Borgo Maggiore in 3 mins’ time.

This tip is really more of a train/bus/taxi travel tip.
To get to San Marino by train you need to get off at Rimini, Italy. There you can buy bus tickets for about 6.50 Euro roundtrip to San Marino. The bus comes about every 1.5-2 hours and is very punctual and will not wait even a few seconds. I missed it by so little that I could have touched the bus.
The other option to get to San Marino from Rimini is by taxi. It cost me 40 Euro ($60 USD) and I was not happy to part witht he cash. The good news is it is faster than the bus.
The bus takes an hour to go one way and a taxi was 30 minutes. It is about a 30km drive. Take that into consideration when planning your time and what train you are going to leave on.

San Marino and Borgo Maggiore Stations - this was an enjoyable experience and certainly does get you from one part of the Republic to another very quickly. It departs every fifteen (15) minutes.

It seems that there is a limited opportunity to use different means of public transport in the Republic. However, the taxi services available are fairly cheap and reliable; there is the cable way and the buses to and from Rimini.
