It's always nice for a city to have a history and that is to have a castle somewhere on high grounds. Bratislava is no exception, it has the Hrad on the hill there.
Because in January 2008 it was just a couple hours walk to see the city for the first time (I did not stayed the night there, I was coming from Austria and drove to Budapest the same day) I did not go to the Castle.
This is actually the only picture I took with the castle, pretty blurry I know, it was freezing temperature, like minus 10 degrees, so so cold.
Favorite thing: Bratislava castle is the focal point of the city, located on the hill on the north bank of the Danube. It makes for a good walk up to get good views of the city and also good fun to scramble down if it has been snowing!
I have aded some rain drops to the glass in front of the camera to show that Holland and Belgium have not the monopoly of rain. In fact, I've been in many places where it rains but in most of those places -and contrary to Holland and Belgium- the sun also shines. A matter of balance, i guess.
Well, this street is busy with trafic and people. Obchodna, as its name explain it, is full of shops. At the end of the street you can see one of the four outer walls of Bratislava Castle. In the left inferior corner you can see a green cross, it means you're ill but you can continue...Watch out when the cross is in red. Your life could stop!!!
A beautiful detail is the "roof" on the top of the "announcement column" on the right. I think it showed the city-bus routes. Sylvia will tell the last word.. She ALWAYS has the last word, ask her victims.(-;
Favorite thing: New complex of buildings is ready !! :) It is just for politicians and their agenda but it is nice to see it again. All buildings were in very bad conditions so they were demolished in sixties and now rebuild again for needs of National Council.
From the south side of the river you have a wonderful view of the old city. All the palaces (and some new 'not very aesthetic' hotels and so) stand on the north bank. Above, at the left, you can see the Castle (Bratislavsky Hrad).
The only thing I would recommend at this time is a visit to the castle, which is on a small hill. Nice views of the city from there. The area around the castle (old town) is also worth a quick tour.
The picture shown here was taken from a peaceful park on the right side of the Danube River just down from one of the main Danube bridges.
Favorite thing: Castle of Bratislava - ranks among the most significant Bratislava´s dominat buildings. The castle was residence of Slovak presidents. There is interesting museum of history, from the top you have nice view at the city.
Visit the Castle and the city centre.
Visitar el castillo y el centro historico de la ciudad.
Fondest memory: When the sun falls down with an orange colour over the Castle.!!
Cuando el sol cae con un fuerte color naranja sobre el castillo.
Pict> me in the castle.

Favorite thing: This majestic castle stands on a rocky outcrop which forms part of the Malé Karpaty mountains above the Danube river and is an outstanding feature of the capital Bratislava.
It's nice to go there with friends or a loved one, because it;s a very romantic place. :)
There is a huge park, a museum, souvenir shop, cafe and some government offices.
Favorite thing: The castle towers above the city, and is thus interesting both in itself and for the views it offers.
Favorite thing: The view of the city from castel is very good. just go up there sit down and view the city. if it is summer than you would love it.
Fondest memory: There was a nice view from the castle, and interesting exhibits. The gift shop there had some very unique gifts.
Fondest memory: It was a great day to visit the castle - cloudy, hazy, rainy, windy and cold! Couldn't have picked a better time!
Fondest memory: When I am away from Bratislava I really miss my native language. And Slovak people, good friends and unrepeatable atmosphere of Slovak land . And of course great ice-cream.
